FA 2004 - Creativity & Aesthetic Experience

Something in the drama department and something that i would die if i had to take. So i'll drop it and use some of my AP credit to get by. Thanks again. Keep the advice pouring in. :)

Make sure you do your assignments early, don't party too much (if your work isn't done that is), and the single most important piece of advice you will ever get in your college life:

GO TO CLASS!

Very good advice!!

Engineering curricula have uniform minimum requirements in the humanities and social sciences. The 18-credit minimum includes 6 credits of Freshman English, usually completed during the first year, and 12 credits of humanities and social science electives selected from Areas 2 and 3 (6 credits each) of the university core curriculum.

go find your checksheet online and see what you need to take. everyone usually needs 1 credit atleast from area 6. its a 1 credit class they are cake. i know people who took that class. meets like once a week or something.

goto www.ratevtteachers.com to check out teacher reviews too. best site for students to read about teachers.

You'll be fine. I work full-time 40+ hrs/week and still managed to pull off 15 cr hours last semester. It nearely killed me but I did it.

you're a freshman, don't worry about it :) usually 16+ hours a semester will let you graduate in 4 years. Since you are an engineering major I don't know what your program requires.

My worst schedule in engineering was:

Electrical Energy Conversion
Telecommunication Networks
Communication Engineering
Digital Electronics
Computer Architecture
Digital Electronics Lab
Social Psychology
+
10 hours of work

It was not as bad as it sounds though.

This was my worst schedule in 4 years of school.

d00d, I recommend 12 hours for the 1st semester. Register for 15 so that you have room to drop a class. It will work better that way. You need time to get adjusted.

It really depends on the classes. I am taking 16 this semester, and none of them are easy classes......16 will be plenty for me....:(

I honestly think its the number of actual subjects that you are taking that makes a difference. I would take 4 5-credit classes over 6 3-credit classes any day, even though it is technically more credits.

At least 10 of those credits appear to be BS and Calc should be a snap. So it's not a lot in this case.

That sounds right. Taking the lab without the class makes no sense.

I used to take chem lab on Saturday monrings which really worked out well. It's a good use of time that you would otherwise spend watching cartoons.

I suspect that you have ROTC on the weekend though.

Whoop-de-friggin-doo. 4 semesters in a year, 63 credits. Take 17-18 in the fall/spring, and thats 27 credits for the summer and winter semesters. 13-14 credits for those. Which on average, is less than 16 credits a semester.

There's no need to be an asshole when he's asking an honest question.

So any advice or anything that anyone can give me is greatly appreciated. Orientation is the 21-22 and i am scared sh!tless.

I graduated from Tech engineering. This schedule with these classes is cake. FA 2004 is a joke class and everyone takes it for an easy passing grade to fulfill that requirement. Or you could take ART 1004 with Kathy Pinkerton. An auditorium sits and looks at pictures of art on slides, so it's basically nap time. I'll never forget the last email from Ms. Pinkerton: "There were 4 F's but everyone passed.":confused::confused::confused:

Calculus and Linear Algebra are the two most important classes on that schedule. Linear Algebra at the Math Emporium sucks, but you will use matrix equations until you graduate (well, you'll use them on a computer, but it helps to understand them). And everything is based on calc. Since you forgot about chemistry lecture, I'd drop the Naval Science class.

Who is your Freshman Engineering teacher? That class is mostly a joke, doesn't teach you anything you really need to know, but they may have made it a bit better since I took it.

Math and chem should be a piece of cake. I remember hating english classes when I was in school though. You should be fine though. 15 - 16 hours was normal for me.

(1) your very first semester if you are likely to have a hard time adjusting, and
(2) your hardest semester of college.

#2 is easy. Ask everyone in your major which semester has the most work (often junior/senior year). Then schedule your other years to make certain you have that semester without any excess courses.

#1 varies from person to person. Many people can handle college with no problem at all. Many others cannot. If you have a burning desire to break free from your parents control and finally be free to do as you please, you likely fall into this group. I've seen far too many straight A students (and some who had lesser grades) who just couldn't wait to be rid of their parential control and who tried to take 16+ credits their freshman year. Too much partying and not enough school. All their scholarships were lost due to poor grades and many eventually dropped out of college. So if you might fit this type of personality, don't create too many problems, and just take 13 credits. You can always take that extra class some other time.

I'm not saying that partying and having fun is a bad thing. You can and should do that. But some people have a hard time saying no to their 5th, 6th, or 7th party of the week and then cannot do their homework.

Overall this should be your easiest semester. So if you can handle the responsibility, take as many credits as you can. You'll thank yourself later. If you cannot handle the responsibility, take as few as you can until you adjust.

What are you talking about..

One way to measure is UNITS. 16 units is about the standard. EE students will go higher sometimes. Double major and you can hit 18 - 19.

The most important thing is HOURS/week. You can take 16 units and only have 17 18 hrs of class per week. IF you take tech classes and have lab, my 17 units gets me 26.5 hrs/week. WIth the wrong classes, 18 units can mean 33 hrs / week.

It really depends what school you're at. I see fUCLA students breeze through 16 units. Sometimes I want to slap them because what the hell. We're so much more hardcore....

Uhh no hate pal. Go to a top notch school WITHOUT GPA inflation like I do and then take 16 units worth of tech classes then work full time, and then come out with a good GPA. Then maybe you'll wonder how those stupid IVY LEAGUERS and crap schools get by...

For Tech its about average (ek Hokie myself), though for the life of me I can't figure out why your doing frosh lab without frosh chem, best to do them together. Chem lab is really easy as long as you do the chem class with it otherwise it gets confusing.

Fine Arts courses suck...... Take Econ 2405/2406 with Steigner if hes still there eeeeeeeeeeeasy A.

Psssst there are a couple of online classes ie music appreciation where you can do the tests and exams online. They don't let you browse the site while u take the test but I've 'heard' a simple ctrl + N fixes that problem :p

Some online classes require you take the final at the emporium which is no big deal, unless your a complete moron you will pass. You could simply opt for a P/F especially your unsure about it.
