While we're on the subject of 14 yr olds.....Did anyone ever notice how they dress in more expensive clothing than they ever did before? I see kids walking around in all abercrombie and fitch clothing like its the cheapest clothes of them all. $70 for a shirt? something tells me their parents must be loaded, but still it pisses me off! I dressed in American Eagle clothing from age like 15 on, and still do. I still can't afford A&F clothing, yet I see some 14-15 yr old sporting it.

American Eagle? They make decent ammunition.

as a 19 yr old kid, i would say in my school practically every girl had one by junior year and definitely by senior year.

Personally i would look at the type of clothes your daughter wears and judge from that if you think she has a decent understanding that she's 14, then sure let her express herself.

but i'd ask her is she doing it b/c she wants it or is it because everybody else/her friends are doing it.

if you trust her/think she's mature enough give her a couple days to decide if she wants it let her do it i guess.

I'm a middle school teacher and the only girls who have piercings other than the ears are the "easy" girls. I do not know one honor roll student who has other piercings. I had a student who had a tatoo on her butt(I declined to see it) and a tongue piercing, she was 13. Seriously, 14 is too young and there is a reason why you can't get pierced if you are younger than 18 without parental permission.

Some of you people don't understand. 14 is the time where major developements occur in and outside of the body. It's a time that majorly defines the personality of an individual. Let her do as she wants. It's only a stupid piercing for freakin god's sake.

That's some pretty weak reasoning.

I think that means if your child develops early, say at 11, then that child should have a piercing if she wants. 😉

I don't think it's too young, but if she's showing it all the time, then that seems overexcessive exposure. If she wants to show it off all the time, it's inappropriate. If she wants to admire it herself - then go for it. 😛

/end cynicism

Today on Maury: I'm in grade 8 and I don't know who my baby's father is!

Compared to that, I'd say let her pierce her navel.

implying that she is trashy because she wants a hoop ring through her navel is wrong - so that is the problem.

also, she is not my kid, so i have no say in what she does/wears.

Well at the risk of you now flaming me for my opinion I will say there is a high number of people that feel piercings outside the ears = trash, = easy, = low intelligence, etc. Doesn't make it right....but the wrongs of the world seem to decide a lot of how it affects an individual.

Also depending on her activities and where she lives, those will have a huge impact on perception of it.

I don't want to know how you know which 7th grade math students are the easiest nor how the subject of a tattoo on a student's butt even got brought up in enough proximity to you to have her offer to show you it, but based on some of the crazies here looking to fight for a cause with each passing breath, I would not link your middle school from your 'personal' website to begin with, yet alone making that link accessable from your profile.

For young and old girls what you see isn't always what you get, you should know this in your 30's. One I am curious exactly how many of the middle school as a whole has non-ear piercings, how you know them all, and how all of them are definitely easy.

That's some scary posting.

Amanda, don't be so lame. my niece doesn't, nor will she, dress like a hoochie mama.
btw, what do you wear for clothes? a big black sweatshirt, sweatpants, white kneesocks and white Keds?
I wasn't serious about that. I've already stated my opinion in this thread, and I never said anything negative about her when I said it. I put that as a joke.

I don't see how my sig has any relation to what you are saying though. I also don't see how just because I said that, that I must be someone who wears a lot of loose clothes and doesn't show any skin. You really need to grow up.

Oh, and I find it odd that you had nothing to say to the person who I quoted. You just made comments about what I said.

: ) Amanda

I think 14 years old is a very sexy age; an age when young little hoes first learn how to hoe around. Why shouldn't that be accentuated with a slutty piece of jewelry hanging from the belly button?

Telling it like it is.

^
Yep

So does she want to be just another throw away Ho? At me college we had a saying "you can party with the party girl but you don't keep or marry the party girl."

Girls act like they are let and/or treated. So do you just want her to be another ho?
you are delusional. just because she has a hoop in her navel doesn't mean she is gonna f*ck everyone in sight.

No, but there's a strong correlation that I've seen for myself.

Same here. My daughter didn't get her ears pierced until she was 7, had asked for it herself, and knew that it would hurt to get it done.

Mosh, your niece is just too young, tell her she should wait for adulthood to get it done.

yeh, it's cool for you to have your opinions, but remember they thought Elvis was the devil for shaking his hips on stage too.

Why not get her a thong, some low rise and some neon colored platform shoes while you are at it?
Make sure that the pants say "Hottie" across the butt too.

Oh, and don't forget the tube top shirt that says "Your boyfriend wants me!". I haven't seen a tube top that said that though. You might have to get it made just for her.

Having her belly button pierced at 14 is very sluttish. You can say it isn't all you want, but 99% of people will consider her easy, a slut, or a whore. That's just how it is. Because she is labeled those names she will then start acting like one. _Goddamn_ I _love_ sociology.
