is 1.7v too high for s754 newcastle

right now my 3200 newcastle is running @2640 240x11, but i need 1.7v to keep it stable. is that too high or still within safe limits?
 
That's pretty damn high, but Newcastles can take more volts than 90nm parts. How high can you get it at 1.6 or 1.65v?
 
1.65v might be ok if you can keep it cool, but I can't keep my newcastle below 55C after 1.625V on air. I bet you have to use an extra .075V just for that last 40mhz.

@1.6-1.65v it will do 2550mhz

edit: right now it idles at 39c, (thermalright xp-90)

 
1.7 is a TON... keep it below 1.65 and more like 1.6 if you can... that is unless you change CPU's like your underwear....

This is a newcastle, a .13 micron chip. The rule of thumb was to definately keep it below 1.8v. Personally, 1.65v is more reasonable on air cooling.

.09micron chips can't handle nor do they need as much voltage as they are manufactured on a smaller process.
 
I ran 1.9vcore through a clawhammer for about a month, and it was okay...I'd say 1.7 is fine. .13 process is the same as bartons and they were okay up to 2.0vcore...

thanks, Leper Messiah that's what i needed to hear, but i'm gonna drop it back down to 2550mhz 1.6v, and thanks for everybody's input, i'm sure 1.7 isn't going to kill it overnite, but better safe than sorry(i need it til next Dec)

That's what I say. Seems like oftentimes a CPU will clock to so high on default voltage, then a bit higher with a slight bump, but then to get even more starts taking bigger jumps in voltage. What I do is to stay ahead of that curve.
