You haven't even proved .999... exists. Measure exactly .999... and you'll finally see for yourself its not equal to one.

what if something cost 99.9r cents and I paid you with a dollar. What change would you give me?
 
My Quicken program seems to think so. It divides 3000 by 30 and comes up with 99.999 all the time!

WTF??? Now I have 99.999999...........................shares of that stock.😀
 
Mathematically this is true, however logically it is not. People claim that math is the only exact science left, but this problem proves its not.

1/9 = .111111111 . . . .. .

2/9 = .222222222222222222222 . . .

3/9=.3333333333333333333333 . . .

4/9=.44444444444444444444444444. . . .

and so on and so forth.


9/9 = 1 . . . . or .999999999999999999999999999 . . .

this isn't a proof, just kinda a 'hey, you know, that makes sense' type deal.

I do not have to PROVE it exists, I mearly have to be able to write it as a well formed real number. I can do at least 2 different ways, one is the notation we have been using .999... where once again, (cuz I know that you are slow). the 3 dots are called an ellipsis, when this notation appears at the end of a number it means repeat the pervious pattern o fnumbers continously.

Or it can be expressed as 9 * (sum from n =1 to infinity of .1^n ). This is the basic definiton of a real number as long as I am able to correspond a digit to the nth expression of this sum I have a real number.

This of course were the symbolism .000...1 where the ellipsis is incorrectly used in the middlle of a number to represent an infinte number of digits. Since I must be able to assign a integer to the 1, to have a well formed real number, there cannot be an infinite number of zeros. This notation makes sense if the ellipsis represents an unspecified finite number of zeros.

Again there is no proof needed when your are dealing with a basic definition.

1 is EXACTLY equal to .999...
It's not a theory, it's a fact.

Anyone who thinks otherwise has not taken the proper math classes. Ask any math professor and see what they say.

Errr....ok then. I think you're being sarcastic and all but...
I believe what the great minds of the past have proven. I believe that there's a reason all math teachers agree with them. And I believe that they are exactly equal.
