I was asking the guy who made that claim. Im not going to hunt down the metric he used to come up with it.

No one questions the technical competency of the IRS employees or the degree of difficulty of their job. That being said, it's the legitimate role of Congress to oversee how federal monies are spent. There very well may be legitimate business reasons to have reduced customer service budgets in favor of other priorities, however if there are the IRS administrators should likewise be able to articulate them to the Congress and American people - no government agency should be above question for how they spend their money. And yes, that does mean that perhaps the Administration has to suffer a bit of embarassment if those choices are deemed to be ahem, unwise. Progressives would demand the same if there was a Republican in the White House.

I'm not the kind of borderline personality that needs to be outraged about something, anything, all the time, certainly not about the IRS doing things the same way they've probably done them forever. It's not abut whoever happens to be Prez at the time. Well, other than when the Bushistas redirected them to getting blood out of turnips, EITC filers. That only makes sense if you're among those that efforts were directed away from, ya know?

My only other problem with the IRS is that righties seem to think that they're not worth their keep which is obviously a load of horseshit.

I also have a problem with the idea that they'll do a better job with a smaller budget. When you pay Walmart prices, you get Walmart service, and yes, the execs still get their bonuses. Service apparently isn't a consideration for the budget cutters.

Hmmm...are you in favor of cutting CEO pay?

Do they make better then market pay?
Depends on who is looking at it and how, but generally speaking, yes, until you get to upper management and/or PhD levels. There's a reason government jobs are in such demand, and it's not masochism.
