this is less technical than most of the run error stuff, but never the less, i can't seem to figure it out...

The headphone jack in the front of my computer will not work. I've got a SopranoRS and an AbitIP35Pro...now the audio cable (i'm assuming since it's the only one I could figure) ran into the bottom rear of the mobo under the FP-audio1 plug (it says audio and the plugs line up)...so i'm assuming that's right...what's more, it DID work the first day initially, so now i'm pretty confident it's the right one...however, the next day when I turned on my computer, it would not work...and it has not worked since then. it's not the headphones since I've tried 3 different pairs and they all work in the back where the jack in the mobo is, and it's not a loose wire because i've tried wiggling the connector on the mobo...

As i recall, the first day i used it vista had downloaded updates when i turned it off...HOWEVER I'M NOT SURE...so i don't want that to say that's the culprit.

The second thing is that I bought a floppy/card reader...the floppy works, but the card reader does not...this is more than likely because there is a plug i have not connected that says +vdc data- data+ gnd (I know that's the specific names of the wires) however I can't figure out where to plug this into my IP35Pro...there's nothing that seems to match up with that kind of plug...does anyone know how to connect something like this or where Abit put the connector on the mobo?

Thanks, those are the only 2 issues I have to correct for my build to be officially "complete."

Thanks,

John

well, the vdc is part of the USB port on the board you have to plug it into. as for the sound, did vista download and install any audio drivers?

I don't know how to find out "what" was installed...there were 39 "updates" altogether, so i don't have a clue as to what vista installed.

"well, the vdc is part of the USB port on the board you have to plug it into" sorry, could you put that in english? what's the vdc and what do you mean it's part of the USB port? On the mobo it's part of the USB port? sorry, i'm just not there yet with the lingo.

Like i said about vista though, i don't recall, and actually thinking back on it, i do not think that I installed the updates on that day, but again i'm not 100%

Down along the bottom of your board there are 4 blue sockets. These are where you can plug in the connector. Anyone of them will do. They're labeled FP-USB-1, FP-USB2, etc.

I'm not using Vista, but if you can get into Control Panel you should find an Icon that will deal with your Audio. Maneuver around in there and see if there is a setting to enable FP audio.

If you can't find anything, see if you can roll back the driver for the soundcard.

If you're really messed up, reinstall the drivers for your soundcard from disk. Motherboard disk, I'm forgetting it's onboard sound.

The trick will be preventing that same update from installing next time around. If I had a Vista machine here in front of me, I could probably help. But I don't.

I am going to take a guess and say the front usb ports were a bunch of individual pins and not a rectangular block, correct?

if I can locate an image of what I think yours looks like, I'll post it for verification.

did your front panel usb connector look like this?

robisbell, kind of looked like that, on the mobo it's laid out across horizontally there are 4 different connectors with 4 pins across (the pic you had shows them doubled up in groups of 8) and the usb connector fit into one of them...there was only 1 usb connector, even though there are 2 usb ports...

okay, if you have two ports there should be 2 connectors. between this and the burner issue, I'd need to see the actual wiring for the front panel audio and usb, something is not adding up right.

i'd send you pictures but...LOL the card readers don't work!! This is definately not related to the burn issue though since this happened when I built the computer and the burn issue started yesterday

but when you have this many issues with one build, you need to double check everything.
you mean the camera did not come with a usb cable?

 I um...lost it...that's why I bought the card reader

These issues seem to be independent though because of what I mentioned earlier about them starting at very different times.

well, without seeing, then the case is missing cable for the usb ports, if it only has a plug for 1 usb and there are 2 on the front.

do you know the make or model of the case you have?

it's a SopranoRS, and there's definately only 1 plug...strange.

regarding the sound thing, this is from Abit's BIOS update section:
Version: 12 File Size: 542 KB Released: 2007-08-15

Update CPU micro code.
Support Wolfdale & Yolkfield CPU.
Support the pin definition of Front Audio adjusting function.
BIOS compiled date: 08/15/2007.

Is this relevent to my issue? I have no idea what it even means, but it sounds similiar...
