Irritated noob to the forsale/trade forums

Im a little bummed. I'v been an ebayer for years now but Im getting tired of ebay milking me for all the fees. I'd thought I would give the forsale/trade section here a chance. I may be getting the wrong vibe but after a few days browsing I notice this distrust and almost loathing of new people who have no heat feedback. I've never even heard of it till now. I notice my listing getting ignored while a similar listing gets multiple pms and bumps. I put my ebay feedback rating in my listing since I don't have any heat yet but ebay feedback seems to be hated here for some reason. Someone said they could be fake. I guess thats possible but if I say go to ebay type in this item #8254334298 and email the seller if I respond to it then its obviously legit so give us a break for the non heat stuff till we can get our feet in the door. Is the chance of getting burned here by new sellers/traders so bad that Im asked to ship first even after I've given every bit of info I can think of to make the buyer/trader feel comfortable for a twentysome dollar item? Actually I have no problem shipping first till I can make some positive heat but the one deal I did have going, the person doesn't use paypal. I like quick turnarounds.

Is paypal popular here or is everything pretty much checks and money orders?

So with all that being said I do understand the mentality behind it all but at the same time I feel somewhat insulted because someone doesn't trust me when I know Im 100% trustworthy. Yes, I know they don't know me and maybe they shouldn't trust me yet. Guess Im old and have never been ripped off from any online deals and I've been dealing not just on ebay but other places since pre web brower guis showed up 😉 So the mistrust is very hard for me to swallow. Thats it in a nutshell.

BAM! OK, climbing off the soapbox. Just had to get that off my chest becuase for some reason it was bothering me enough to make a post.

Now time to go play some WoW!

This isn't ebay. Thus ebay feedback doesn't apply.

You're a noob, and I would expect you to ship first.

Paypal is pretty popular here.

Unless you can confirm that you own that ebay account by sending a message through it...

Exactly. Whats to say that that heatware account is mine!? Its no different. Send a message its not that hard. I've had two or three traders do it to me, I have NO problem with them doing so.

I've had pretty good luck here on AT but I don't trust Ebay myself, a combination of Heatware & having been a forum member for a substantial period of time has proven to be pretty reliable ... the one time I went with Ebay reviews & a recently joined member I got trolled, so I'm double-careful now as are most other members.
Don't take it personally & hang in there... once you get at least a few positve Heat evals & up that post count folks will be more inclined to trade with you.

We ALL went through the same thing. Ebay feedback means nothing here. You will just have to live with the system that is in place here, which is Noobs ship first until they build up some length of time here, as well as some good Heat. Once established, cross trading is good.

the ebay feedback system is a disgrace, and really should not be tolerated

it just takes time and patience to build heat. if you are reputable, you will do just fine

Why can't heatware feedback be fake?

This isn't ebay. Thus ebay feedback doesn't apply.
Wouldn't the same logic "this isn't heatware, thus heatware feedback doesn't apply here" mean heatware is also not as creditable?

offer to ship/pay first. You are a n00b to them. I do it since I have little heat and everyone else does too. Just the way it is. After you get 15-20 postive heats, it'll change.

dispite what you may be told MUST happen, you are under no obligation to ship first to anyone. it is your property and you can do whatever you like with it. if you dont want to ship first, dont. the rules do not state that you have to. read the rules & regs at the top of the FS/T forum... no where in there does it say that you MUST ship first. dont let anyone bully you.

having said that... there are some traders here who will not deal with a new trader unless they are willing to ship first. use your discretion.

Ebay feedback is pretty worthless here, unless you have VERY large amounts of it, all positive and even then.. meh, most here use is only as secondary feedback. The feedback currency here is Heatware. just like every country has their own currency... most forums have their valued evaluation scale. Be careful with heatware and always test the email address from there as well as what the seller gives you.

There are some fantastic traders on this board, many of them will be helpful in guiding you thru.

🙂

Heatware can be fake - but there are many well-known traders here. If I saw someone with 87 feedback - and they all were from people I had never heard of and who had only one feedback themselves, it would look fishy.

We all started at zero - in all honesty, if you don't like it, don't trade here. However, it's worth the time to become established - there are plenty of great guys on the FS/T forum, and more than enough good deals.
