So yeah, I admit I'm probably a little too serious about chinese food. But it annoys me to no end when I see places that add peas and carrots to chinese cuisine. Why not add a hamhock in the egg foo yung? Or how about chucking some diced turkey in the fried rice? What's worse is when I'm searching online for a thai or chinese dish recipe and I see some people list ketchup as an ingredient for some of the sauces? WDF!?!

arrrggghhhhh spare me from these generic hybrid chinese dishes

so uh yeah, whats your irrational pet peeve

People that say "You haven't seen that movie?!?!" when I just got done telling them that I hadn't seen that particular movie.

lol, that's a whole thread unto itself. People who ask you a question you just gave an answer to.

For example

coworker: hey ted, how was your weekend?
ted: it sucked, my wife wants a divorce, my cholesterol is high and my dog died
coworker: cool, so what'd you do over the weekend?

most overseas chinese food places are based on the cuisine of hong kong or the surrounding guangdong area. As hong kong was a british colony for a hundred years or so, there is, inevitability, some western influence in its food that has carried over.

Its kind of like complaining about using tomato in italian dishes because tomatoes are originally from south america.

If you're looking for authentic chinese dishes, try avoiding cantonese/hakka cuisine, as they have been heavily hit by western influences. Try Sichuan (Szechuan) dishes as that cuisine is also popular overseas, but hasn't been westernized to the extent that cantonese dishes have been. (except kung pao chicken...)

This is not my only pet peeve, but it is up there on my list. However, I do not believe it is irrational at all.

Chances are, the general recipe for the dish your eating isn't remotely authentic anyways, so who cares?

egg foo young isn't even real chinese food.
Chinese people eat mostly fish and rice. Stuff like squid, octopus, shellfish, mollusks, sea urchins and shit, and I've even seen them boil fish heads for soup (the idea just grosses me out).
<----- spent a summer working in a chinese restaurant as delivery

Cantonese dishes are Cantonese. Bastardized dishes are bastardized.

My mom gets pissed when Mexican places use that veggie mix that has cubed carrots, peas and lima beans in the spanish rice.
