I've been getting BSOD's lately with the error code in the title. A google search gives conflicting answers as to the cause (bad RAM, driver issues, etc).

Can anyone give me a definitive answer or a method of troubleshooting this?

I had this problem about 6 months ago.... and it eventually turned out to be bad RAM. I bought a stick of 512meg kingston for $113 (! was just before the prices crashed... :( !) and everything was back to normal....

Does your BIOS automatically assign IRQ's or have you changed them/it doesn't support them?

I used to have an older mobo that came up with the same error, turned out I had to set my device IRQs back to their defaults. After that it worked fine.

I know, it's not definative, but it's something to check :)

It does auto-assign IRQ's as far as I know and I've installed/uninstalled a lot of crap since I built this particular rig up. I'll check that when I'm home.

1) Run MemTest86 and let us know the results (if you find errors try testing each stick of RAM on it's own).
2) Tell us what your CPU temps are.
3) Tell us what drivers you've updated lately and/or what software you've installed lately.

Check. I'll do all those and post results once I'm home from work (about 5 EST).

I've had that error a couple of times and it always turned out to be bad Crucial RAM. Replacement RAM always cured the problem.

Hey my fellow bicycling enthusiast :) If that BSOD comes up again copy it please as often the exact error string can be very informative, sometimes even pointing to a particular product brand E.G. Brothers, Logitech, Creative.

My coworker has been getting that a lot with a program he is writing (actually a program of mine he is adapting). The best we can figure out is a driver issue for hardware the program accesses since it happens only when a driver is accessed.

I just had the same error on Friday on a XP install. It was the ram that was causing the problems. Put different memory in and now it runs like a champ.

I have this same problem. It happened a long time ago when I switched out the Power supply when I got my antec one RMA-ed. When I put the antec one back it has the same problem. Tried another antec same problem. Switched to the second one that worked for a while and It still didnt work. I ram doc RAM memory tester and passed. Could I still have possible bad ram?

I really would like to find out the problem but If its a bad ram I will have to RMA both of them so that means downtime for my computer or buy something for now.

swap out your memory. I will almost guarantee it will work. The memory I have works too, just not with my setup.

Thanks teckmaster. You say swap it out. Should I get an RMA for the 2 DDR ram that I have and then sell the replacement one I get back or should the replacement one that Crucial send back to me work? I heard crucial was a great brand thats why I got it. Should I get Mushkin ram instead? Thanks

overclocking causes them alot (both video and cpu)...

My biggest was caused by XP selecting the wrong SCSI driver (right chipset, but there was a vendor specific one that worked much better).

Until I discovered that I'd get IRQ_NOT_LESS.... errors to BSODs about once a day.
