IRQL not Less or Equal.........

Just built a new rig - with not everything fitted yet e.g. soundcard, ADSL
modem etc.

I've got all the DOS files from a clean install done [c:\ NTFS] and XP is rebooting
into the windows element. I get through all the keyboard configuring for UK
etc and then I get the BSOD with the above message. I found the MS Knowledge
Base article on it but its a fairly wide ranging solution.

Any pointers where to start ? 😕

Thanks in advance........

This error is almost always do to one of two things 1) an actual resource conflict on the system or 2) a older/bad driver. I'd start by removing what cards you can. Make sure you have the latest bios for the system and any other peripherals that can be flashed. The only driver you can really update at this point is the harddrive one as install starts, check if you ned one for your controller and make sure to add it if you do.

Good luck!

This is the exact same message I get when I shut down (I have reboot on error turned off).

During boot, I get the following message:

1. My machine is trying to detect an Ultra100 Promise controller, after a moment
it states that none is detected because there are no drivers installed. However,
all HDs are functioning properly.

My newly rebuilt machine worked fine the first few days, but not being able to shut down
properly for the last wekk is killing me.

I have unistalled all hardware except hds, cdrom, cdr/dvd combi and video to no avail.

I have the following specs:

MB = ASUS AV7E - VIA 266E
VGA = VisionTek 6564 G3 Ti 200
Sound = SB 5.1
Modem = DiamondMM SupraMAx
Athlon 1800+
Maxtor 30 GB @ 7200
MAxtor 6.5 GB @ 5400
Pioneer 24x cd-rom
LG cdrw/dvd Combidrive

I have downloaded the latest 4in1 drivers but not sure if this
would update my MB Bios.

Any suggestions.
