IRQ probs with sound in fully integrated system

Hi All.

I'm trying to help a friend troubleshoot some sound problems she's having with the integrated Audio on her PC-chips motherboard.

The sound cuts out or locks when she's surfing the net. Her internet connection goes through a USB router. And her sound device is sharing an IRQ with USB. I want to resolve this conflict but can't figure out how since ALL of the components (Sound, Ethernet, Video) are integrated into the board.

We've tried the latest sound drivers.

Before advising her to buy a real sound card I want to try everything possible with the current config.

I was thinking of advising her to disable onboard sound in the BIOS, reboot, and then enable the sound and when it reboots see if it finds a new IRQ. Does that sound like it might work? I don't have alot of experience with these integrated systems. Is it ok to leave the drivers in the system even while ingegrated sound is disabled?

Whilst you're in the bios check and see if you can't free up some resources by turning off com or parallel ports that aren't going to be used. This may do the trick.

IRQs 3 and 9 are currently free.

Do you think disabling COM 1 (IRQ 4) would lead Sound or USB to take one of the free interupts?

Also, what does COM 1 do?

Com1 can be your serial port on back of pc.. use to be common for mouses.

Try what your thinking... if that doesnt work then get an ethernet card and an ethernet modem instead of USB if possible.
