Hi. I installed a scsi adapter and burned
my first cd. Put it in my player and no
sound. Tried winamp with some mp3s and again
no sound. Checked IRQ assaignment and noticed
the scsi card is using the same irq as the
SB Live card. I figure that is the problem.

Which IRQ can I set it to? I've included a
copy of what is in use now and by what device.

[IRQs]

Resource Device Status
IRQ 9 SCI IRQ used by ACPI bus OK
IRQ 9 ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering OK
IRQ 9 ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering OK

try disabling a com port that you don't use (many people have extras) then assign either the scsi card or the sb to that irq that you freed up
only do this if you have no plans to use the com port

I disabled com2 in the bios and upon reboot, the scsi
card is now using irq3. I still don't get sound.
In device manager, there is still something that
belongs to the scsi device that is using irq 9.
Under system devices, "SCI IRQ used by ACPI bus"
is still using irq9. How do I move that to another
IRQ

Thanks

Rearranged all pci cards inside case. All works now.
When I open windows explorer and click on my computer,
I have Compact Disc (F) and Compact Disk (G).
The F is the Burner and the G is the CDROM. How do
I label as such.

Thanks

Here is the new order of slot/device:

AGP Nvidia GeForce DDR
01 Empty
02 Adaptec SCSI Controller
03 Empty
04 NIC
05 SB Live Value
06 Empty
ISA AOpen Modem

What motherboard is this? If it's the p3v4x from Asus, someone reported that moving it to Slot 3 helped them.

Otherwise, why not try just removing the card from Device Manager.
Let Windows redetect it and see if it works.

ACPI always wants IRQ 9 for the SCI IRQ.

Slikkster. Once I rearranged the order of slots the
cards were seated in, all went well. Burner works and
so does sound. CDROM and/or Winamp. All seems well.

Now the question is how do I get the 2 players, Yamaha
Burner and ASUS CDROM labeled as such when I open
Windows Explorer. What it says now is:
Compact Disc (F)
Compact Disc (G)
Looking for a way to label these so I don't have to remember
that F is the Yamaha and G is the ASUS.

Yes, I am using the P3V4X.

Thanks

Guess we were both posting at the same time last time, so I didn't see that you had fixed it. I don't know how to label cdrom devices in Windows, as it doesn't seem possible. What IS possible, though, is to give the drives drive letters different than what they are now assigned. You can assign the Yamaha as Drive Y, for instance, and the Asus as some other letter, or just leave it as is.

Thanks. That's what I figured. I went looking through the
registry and found some reference of the two drives but
thouhgt better than make changes. Who knows what damage
I could do. Things are working, why screw around.
