IRQ problem with Gigabyte 8SRX

Hi there,

I have a strange problem with my Gigabyte GA-8SRX (Updated BIOS) - Nothings is working right with IRQ 12. No matter what slot or onboard device - they would be recognized by windows, but would not be completely functional. When assigned any other IRQ they would work perfectly. For example:
Modem A - would answer ATI query and would pick up the line, but would not be able to dial, only make tick noise.
Modem B - would install fine, but not even answer the query.
Soundblaster - installs fine, but only makes clicks. Nothing else.
Onboard USB - only one attached device would work.

I wrote Gigabyte about it a couple of times but received no response.

Does anyone have an idea what could cause this?
Is there a way to leave this IRQ unused? (Besides buying another card and assigning it to IRQ 12)

Thanks in advance for any of your comments,
dnd

Connect a PS/2 mouse. Or set IRQ12 to "reserved", either in BIOS, or in Windows Device Manager.

Problem sounds like BIOS doesn't take IRQ12 off the legacy PS/2 mouse controller correctly for when no mouse has been detected. This then messes up correct operation for PCI interrupts routed to IRQ12.

Thanks, both of you!

I went to asusboards - nothing yet, but it does seem useful.

Adding a PS/2 mouse did help, but I can not find any place to reserve IRQ12 in neither BIOS nor Windows (XP).
Nor is there a place to deactivate PS/2.

I am using the latest BIOS F9.
Anybody knows where to reserve them?
