IRQ not less then or equal error

Ok so my girlfriend's computer has been BSODign cause of the IRQ not less then or equal error. Im thinking it has to do with a conflict in the IRQ and namely one of these 2.

IRQ 20 - nvidia nforce networking controller
IRQ 20 - standard openhcd USB controller

or

IRQ 21 - nvidia nforce audio codec
IRQ 21 - standard openhcd USB controller

For some reason the usb controller is on both irq's. Ive updated my nforce drivers and i can seem to change the IRQ's because they are greyed out.

Any suggestions?

I've never seen a IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL error due to IRQ sharing. I've always been able to trace it to a faulty component (usually RAM) or a buggy driver.

I would recommend some basic checks in the first instance e.g. a RAM check using either memtest86+ (www.memtest.org) or WMD (Link). If successful, then move onto a more general testing program like GIMPS (Link). All these useful tools can be obtained on one bootable CD from Link.

Then perform a virus scan with an up-to-date product, and a careful review of all the software on the machine including a reinstall of service packs, and updating all drivers to the latest WHQL versions.

actualy it probably says IRQL not IRQ. IT's normal for differant devices to share IRQ's, like that with win XP. I get there error when I have overclocked too much, but there are a lot of things that can cause it. I would suggest running memtest, or if you really do suspect it's conflicting devices, then try disabling one of the shared devices. I would also run chkdsk, or a hard drive diagnostics program, and as Mark R suggested, check for viruses and spyware.

Ok, i ran prime 95 and it would crash on the first test each and every time. I switched out the memory with her roomates computer and still crashed, also tried different dimm slots.


So I dont think its the memory unless the dimm slots are busted which im hoping is a no cause the mobo is maybe at most 4 months old and has been working flawlessly since we put it in.

I've had computers with the same irql not less or equal error a couple of times and both times the ram has been at fault. Check the ram with memtest to confirm if it's the ram or not. But you've tried more than one stick so I'm not sure.
