Marvel turns 'Iron Man' into gold with $100M-plus debut

The Marvel Comics adaptation, starring Robert Downey Jr. as the guy in the metal suit, hauled in $100.7 million during its opening weekend and $104.2 million since debuting Thursday night, the second-best premiere ever for a nonsequel, according to studio estimates Sunday.

The film also scored overseas with $96.7 million in 57 countries where it began opening Wednesday, putting its worldwide total at $201 million.

I was commenting on the sorry state of crap that vomits forth from that holiest of places ... Hollywood. They expect us to just swallow up any/all the garbage that they put out and call a "movie". Many people who would normally be considered "dregs" of society are multi-millionaire "actors/actresses" in this magical place.

I really did not enjoy the movie ... sorry Hollywood, you didn't get my money.

Like I said, the movie seems to exist in its own separate continuity.

I enjoyed Iron Man, but to be honest, if you've never seen the trailer and are considering watching it to see if you should see this movie... don't. The trailer likes to ruin some of the fun quips in the movie, which the quips that Downey throws out are some of the best parts in the movie.

Fortunately, there were still a decent amount more, but I went out feeling like I wish I hadn't watched the trailer. Maybe I'll avoid them for must sees from now on.

I don't know how you can consider 27 Dresses a great movie when it was just another clichéd chick flick? Yes, and I've actually seen 27 Dresses (I tend to watch a random movie when I get bored 😛).

I was bored with it at points as well. I thought it was good just not great. Batman Begins blows it out the water and The Dark Knight will do the same to both films. I think it is a good one time watch and that is it.

Saw it over the weekend, not bad at all. Downy was very good with the character and smart asss remarks. The scence after the credit was bleh <wasted my 5 minutes to wait for it>.

Looking forward to the sequel and the odd is 100% that there will be one or two or three.

I liked that the movie actually focused on some backstory and character development and didn't just do a couple of long action sequences. IMO, the fights & action sequences were spaced appropriately & didn't just aim for the typical blockbuster big booms & jiggly women.

I didn't expect to enjoy it so much, but it was great.

I must say, RDJ did a fantastic job...great for the role.

And Gwyneth Paltrow, wow...never really liked her, but she was indeed lookin' hawt in this movie.

Yep. And War Machine was never a villain.

this movie was ehh...he could of spent less time building the suit and demoing it.

War Machine was never an outright villain, but Ironman and WM eventually do get after each other at some point.

The thing I liked the most about Iron Man was the fact that Stark was the focus all the way through. Once the MK III suit was completed, it would have been very easy for Favreau to make the suit the main focus, but by continuing to show RDJ's character, his face, and frequently using his voice, the focus remained on Stark as a character...and not the suit as such. Stark is Iron Man, the suit is just that....a suit.

Thankfully it stayed somewhat loyal to the comics, changing things for modern times...but also stayed clear of the pitfalls most comic book movies venture into (hello Spiderman II and III)

Kudos to Marvel Enterprises for their successful venture into in-house movie production, now let's see if they can rescue the Incredible Hulk from disaster with their 2nd effort.

So, to confirm, as Rhodes flies out of the house leaving Rhodes in the lab, Rhodes takes a look another suit on a rack that looks different than the Iron Man suit. Was that the War Machine suit?
