I don't normally watch a lot of TV and when I do its usually comedy central, headline news, or silicon spin on tech tv. I was surfing around last night before I went to bed and came across Iron Chef on Food Tv. Man thats an oddly entertaining show. I'm not sure whats with the chairman Kaga Takeshi, but its just an awesome show. Are there any battles I should watch out for that are particularly good? :)

Iron Chef is awesome! Any battle is good, but the odder the ingredient, the more entertaining the show. I think the only boring ones I've watched recently are the Peach battle and the Sardine battle.

The natto bean battle was funny, mainly because no one likes natto apparently. Octopus battle was good, any live eel battle is fun - I liked the battle between Ron Siegel and IC French, Sakai, but can't remember what the ingredient was.

soybomb, that's a good way of phrasing the show's appeal, "oddly entertaining". It is, isn't it? Apparently, many would agree, because I've read it has become one of the most popular shows in Japan, and the number one rated show on the FoodTV Network.

Yes, I think you missed the Bobby Flay vs. Morimoto match. THAT was HUGE, and they advertised about it for MONTHS before it aired. The outcome was top secret in Japan and the US before it aired...

Flay was on TWO. The first one, Morimoto came to Amellica to fight him in a mock-up Kitchen Stadium, and schooled Flay. THe second, Flay came to Japan and schooled Morimoto...:)

The live squid was great. So, too, was the octopus episode. Bobby Flay IS a punk, isn't he?!

From what I've heard, they have already begun filming on a US Iron Chef and it should premier in a few months. The host is William Shatner, and is supposed to be very similiar to the Japanese one.

(Hi all)

I honestly think the 2nd match (in Japan) was rigged. Think about it. Food Network sponsored it all and the last thing they'd want is a chef with a worse reputation than he started with. I won't spoil who won but I'm skeptical about the results. Oh, and if anyone here saw the match, raise your hand if you still think Bobby Flay is a real chef :| . Iron Chef rules though. Its just the show that Food Network needs to 'spice things up'.

William Shatner? He can't be one of the judges, can he? His girth attests to his lack of discretion at the dinner table.

While we're discussing Bobby Flay, could he have done any more to further the reputation of "The Ugly American"? Standing on the cutting boards and beating his chest, hootin' and a hollerin'
Not exactly the quiet respect that one usually sees among the various Japanese chefs that appear each week.

Thats so so bad. In no way will be even close to the japanese show just because of that! :D Half the fun, especially at the openings is watching Takesi act a little crazy with facial expressions and stuff. I'll bet shatner won't be wearing an outfit with ruffles either.

I thought it was funny as hell, as he threw off the cutting board because MM told him that he shouldn't stand on it in the previous match. :)

BTW, YES Bobby Flay IS a real chef. Trust me. I don't think the show was rigged.

The best show I've seen was the one with the live lobsters... After beheading them and boiling them in hot water, you could still see the legs twitch on the plate... it was awesome.

Heh heh, yeah, it was cool. I liked the Giant Eel one, though...where they take it and pound a spike through their heads, into the cutting board then fillet them while they wiggle around. :D

Too bad the Japanese Iron Chef was cancelled, I hope the US version is just as good. I think Shatner wil make a good host, his campy style fits in well with the Iron Chef theme.

And the Eel one was good. I LMAO when they pulled them out of the tank and one of the chefs (can't remember which one) just starts beating the hell out of it. And they started marinating it while it was still alive. :D

I honestly think that the state of TV is in such bad shape that we have to leech off of popular shows in Japan and England to maintain something to watch...for instance:
Iron Chef
Whose line is it anyways?
Who wants to be a millionare
etc...etc...
