I had to go back a long way to find this one this morning. 😉

Okay, I have noticed that the judges reaction isn't always a predictor about who'll win - many times it looks like the Challenger is miles ahead, but at the end, the IC wins. I don't know if they tell the judges (or give them a script) to make the ending more dramatic by talking up the loser or if they're selectively editing the comments to make you think someone else is ahead. My brain refuses to believe IC is rigged. 😀

Just for laughs, I went over to FoodTV.com after I left here last night, trying to see if they'd posted who won. Their message boards were hilarious - all kinds of people saying that since Flay won, their faith in humanity had been questioned and they were never ever going to watch IC again. Boo hoo.

I missed all of Morimoto's dishes, so I don't know what he had and how the judges reacted to it, but I heard the sumo guy was pretty harsh on him.

That show made me hungry. I bet they don't have any of those dishes at the local Red Lobster. Woe is me. 😉

i could NOT believe the rematch. bobby flay acted like such an idiot, "raising the roof" and being so ego-driven. it was quite a show tho. i think that the whole thing was sort of an act just to raise ratings. how can anybody seriously act like that! the japanese at least took it goodheartedly. unlike the whiny bobby. bleh, he disgusts me.

Kandagawa's food was damn impressive. I loved the way everyone on the panel gasped when each course was unveiled.

<< I noticed the announcer made it sound like Sakai was the more difficult IC to beat >>

That's what they said. But we all know the greatest Iron Chef is "The Prince of Pasta," Masahiko Kobe!

BTW, Bobby Flay is an arrogant jerk. Morimoto-sama should have kicked his ass! I'd love to see Emeril on the show. If they thought Flay's stuff was too spicy, they aren't going to like the Garlic from Emeril.

<< bobby flay is gonna get his ass destroyed! morimoto is gonna school him and then take his hot girlfriend 🙂 >>

Ha, I just loved how the show turned out. 😛😛😛

<< gotta love the look on Kaga's face after he gave out the verdict. >>

Hehehehehehhe, yeah, he looked like he had just bit into a rotten bell pepper... 😉

For all this about it being rigged, here is the truth.

Iron Chef is done, well, real.

EVERYONE is a real chef, the judges are real, and what they say goes. The ONLY exception is Mr. Bell Pepper who is an actor. He is the only one...

I too took a look at the foodtv forums fo IC. No kidding about the raving!

For all the screaming that BF was a jerk, an a$$, and acting the fool, except for jumping on the counter the Japanese were into it. They seemed to really enjoy the atmosphere, and were far from outraged themselves.

I dont remember this kind of outrage when Molinari (I think it was him) was flour bombing the crowd during the show.

I still think that Bobby could have won fair and square, and that it is possible that IC simply edits the comments to add to the drama of who wins. If you could tell just from the comments of the judges who won, they would loose alot of viewers for that last commercial break as they just spent that last few minutes surfing instead of staying glued to tube for teh verdict.

For those that thought Morimoto couldnt possibly have gotten such low scores, in the 2000th dish special he was voted one of the worst three dishes by the chaiman. The food critic actually said something like "I cant imagine any one would want to eat this." .

Morimoto should have won. His dishes showed true culinary skill. He did with the Japanese Lobster what should have been done with it. Lobster should be enjoyed simply, but with other flavors. Not as part of a spicy Americanized Mexican dish. Bobby is good, but he went too wild in his dishes.

And a real chef doesn't stand on cutting board/counter. 😛

IMHO, what Morimoto did would have been the same as if Flay had broiled the lobster and served it with garlic butter. I could have made that dish, so could thousands of japanese chefs, which is why even though it tasted great, it wouldnt score high. It was fairly ordinary in Japan, other than the high cost of the lobsters. The presentation of that dish was awful with the lobsters standing at attention. He could have simple garnished them on a plate it would have looked so much better. What I think the judges would want is a dish that shows off the chef's skills to the highest degree, IMHO the drunken lobster was a lazy dish. It let Morimoto focus on the three other dishes, since it took so little work. I cant imagine that fried lobster sushi is better that just lobster sushi with soy and wasabi. I think the comments regarding it were in surprise that it wasnt a complete disaster, not so much that it was a great dish.

What Flay did is fairly common in the US, but not in Japan, so to them it could have seemed "inventive" and "exciting" as well as tasting good or great. He also had one more dish, and that would count too. 5 good dishes will beat 4 good dishes, and 4 really good dishes with 1 so-so will be better than 3 really good and 1 so-so.

I wanted to see that!! I saw the first one! I'm sooo mad at Time Warner for not offering the Food Network! We get the gold channel tho! Go figure!
