They should get the people that dubbed the original series to dubb over the American series... just for fun.

I like the April fool's "Water" suggestion too... lol

Other than the fact I can't stand Batali, Flay or Puck ( Cora is ok and I like the new one or at least I did on the "Next Iron Chef" show )... American's just don't have the expansive pallette (sp?) that the Japanese do... so the secret ingredients aren't as "cool" as some of the Japanese ones.

I like IC America BECAUSE it uses normal ingredients. It's kind of hard to relate to a battle where 90% of the ingredients are stuff I've never used or tasted. The American version I have a much better idea of what's going on and get ideas for things I can actually prepare.

I can't stand the idiot chairman in the original with his facial expression when biting into a bell pepper.
Also it seems that in the original, the judges are partial to the japanese style of cooking which does not pan very well for foriegn cooks. That said the show is produced well.

I like the shows however, I don't like the idea of competitive cooking simply for the fact that everyone has different tastes. If you make the most incredible meal ever but it's of a food I don't like, I don't care.

BTW, best part of the Iron Chef America....Alton Brown. He knows everything. :)

I'm not a big fan of the American version of Iron Chef. The original iron chef rocked! Why is Bobby Flay an iron chef? Does the guy even know how to cook? Is TexMex all he knows?

I like both shows! Iron Chef was more fun to watch, but Alton Brown is an awesome food commentator!

iron chef (america?) is one of the greatest shows of all time.

Yea, and the talent that those fuckers have... :Q

I saw an interview with Cat and she broke the show down. I thought for sure that they got an hour or so to prepare a menu *after* finding out the secret ingredient. But they dont. They prepare the sous chefs in advance with dishes (if meat, then X, else if fish then Y, etc), then improvise as the clock ticks *after* learning the secret ingredient. To me that is amazing...

You're not entirely correct. They get a list ahead of time of 5 possible secret ingredients. Typically, they will plan 5 seperate menus, and then execute the one that shows up.

They can also kind of "figure out" the secret ingredient ahead of time by looking at the pantry. The chefs can create a list of things they want in the pantry for each of the 5 possible ingredients, so they can just look and see which set of ingredients was bought (prior to the alter reveal). Also, there is a good 20 minutes while they reshoot the reveal a bunch of times... so there is some downtime there as well. The wiki on this is pretty extensive.

I really like Iron Chef America. They use fish too often though. Sometimes I wish they'd use more normal ingredients, steak, chicken, etc...

Flay and the new Guy Symon I like a lot, the other Iron Chefs I root against.
