Iron Chef America

is this the same series from like 6 moths ago, just "american iron chefs" vs the japanese ones? they had like 3-4 episodes, I liked them but hoped it would become a regular series.

....just flipped it on and I think this is what they already showed

🙁 no cable...i love the jap ones....hopefully someone posts a torrent somewhere out there....

It sucks. Its crap. There's no way Bobby Flay could have won against Morimoto.
Why?

Morimoto is the better chef. Wait til the end... there's no way Bobby Flay should have won. Even in their first matchup... Morimoto clearly outduels Flay. Flay is terrrible.

You are 100% correct!! Flay sucks... He lost BOTH Iron Chef bouts from the original series...

And on iron chef america... he forgot about stuff on the stove, cut himself, put stuff in the blender with no lid... he is such an overrated price of carp.

And while I really like Mario, he did not win either... nothing he did was original. He took 'done-to-death' recipies and just changed the main ingredient to suit the theme ingredient.

W. Puck was great... but there was some controversy about his bringing a professional desert chef and not having anything to do with what she produced.

Even Alton Brown was disappointing. And the chairman... he needs an azzwhooping!

Iron Chef America is gonna suck... big time... I am a HUGE fan of the original Iron Chef. It saddens me to see what they are doing with it now.

🙂

What I found riduculous was that he won on his plating... which was crap. He used plain old skillets. How creative :disgust:

what was wrong with alton brown, I thought he did a great job of keeping dialog flowing and explaining stuff

and flay is a total ass

I think the Japanese chefs are losing because they have Americans judging. That Saprano's guy wouldn't even try half the Japanese stuff.

I like Alton Brown, Good Eats rocks and his book are great. I think he's doing pretty good. Give the show a little time, it'll get better.

True, they need some more refined and less biased judges. How the hell can they judge if they aren't even open to trying different foods??

I agree, they need more food critics and less celebrities (and wtf was Gunther from Friends doing on there???).

Other than that, I thought Alton is doing a great job, he even sounds like Fukui (err...his translator, that is). He does a great job of injecting factoids and some bad jokes. The Ota counterpart kind of sucks though.

the first one had a different feel to it and atmosphere. the new one feels so washed down. i still enjoy watching it but doesn't truly compare the the japanese series

Isn't the original one in front of a live audience? I never saw an audience with the American version.

So you tasted the food they both cooked?
I don't see how anyone can say who won, other than the people who tasted the food. How the food got to the plate is irrelevant, all that matters (mostly) is how it tastes. Presentation is important, to a degree, but the taste is most important.
You can't tell from watching on TV whether one chef did better than another, other than how the food looks.

If you watched the show, you'd know that plating/presentation is part of the scoring. And you can tell just from watching the chefs prepare the food. Flay just doesn't have the sophistication that Morimoto does

Anyone watching the premiere of the series? Flay vs. Bayless, southwestern vs. authentic mexican. BTW morimoto replaced W.Puck, this show looks pretty good so far!
