Wow. After my Rio Volt SP100 decided to corrupt its flash chip, I decided to buy myself an iRiver. To be quite honest, I didn't like how the SlimX looked, but the ChromeX seemed nice. So, I took a chance and ordered one from Amazon on Sunday. It got here today (fast shipping...), and I'm extremely impressed. It has an excellent display, sooo much better than the low resolution display on the Volt. It can display more lines on the screen at once, and doesn't waste all kinds of space with pointless dancing men, like Rio did. Also, it can have either a spectrum analyzer or an oscilloscope, and they're both very smooth considering that it's a $90 portable unit.

Now, the thing that really put me over the top about this player...I can play snake on it. I'm serious. I can play snake on my god damn CD player. Is that cool, or what? :D

Newest firmware (1.12) from iRiver site, go to the menu, go to modes, go to game, choose snakebite. The controls are on the remote (the function button).

You do realize that iRiver made all the Rio Volts right? (they are rebadged iRivers, Sonic Blue had exclusive distribution rights in the US for the iRiver products for a while, IIRC)

Yep, I'm aware of that. However, I trust the original manufacturer more then the people doing the rebadging.

True, plus iRiver's firmware support has been much better over the years than Sonic Blue's has. Clearly the SlimX and ChromeX are superior to the Volt, but the Volt was a huge improvement over the horrible mp3-cd players that came before it.

My Volt is still going strong, and (unfortunately :p) I can't justify buying a new player for the better LCD (enjoy yours!) -- but I must say, the iFP-180t is pretty tempting.
