How does this thing compare to the Rio SP250? I am looking to get one or the other, and I just don't know which is better suited for me. The smaller size would be nice, but would it be a pain to have that extra controller separate from the player? Also, which one would be more rugged? For exercising and stuff, the SP250 looks like it could take a beating (and it has something like 8 minutes of skip protection). Can anyone suggest which one of these is the better player?

Why in teh world would they not include an AM tuner who wants to listen to FM when you have a Cd with 400+s Mp3'?

LOL. AM? I haven't listened to an AM Radio in about 10 years. :D

SlimX is very nice, by the way :)

I'm wary on the battery consumption. All MP3/CD players eat up batteries like it was M&Ms.

Still, it looks pretty impressive. The LCD display looks a lot like the Rio's SP250 and the earbud phones are exactly the same as the one provided with SP250.

Couldn't wait and grabbed an SP250 at BB when they were priced at $149.

Grab a couple of rechargeable NiMHs :).

iRiver made the iRiver which Rio just bought from them and repackaged it as their own RioVolt. The RioVolt 250 is just the iRiver2.

The SlimX is iRiver's next mp3 player after the iRiver2. It seems to be basically the same but it smaller.

Why is everyone questioning the battery life? It says right on there:

<< Low Power Consumption (23 hrs./charge with rechargeable batteries & 2 AA batteries) >>

I'm guessing they include the rechargeables AND the device can recharge them by itself i hope...

My only problem is that Iriver.com shows that they aren't available yet, and at iriveramerica.com when you click on order it brings you to an ip address website. Souds kinda shady

I wonder why these guys haven't expanded their line to include a hard drive based player? They certainly seem to have the
portable CD/MP3 player design nailed down. Lack of an OEM to sell to? Seems like there are only so many variations on the
CD-based form-factor that they can produce before everything starts looking the same.
