It's funny because if you weren't a doofus you would know that that is impossible
because even assuming they had a sub it still couldn't get through the locks

"It is not known how the Iraqis transported the sub into Lake Michigan. "They could've built it right in Michigan, or they may have built it outside the country and sailed it in. God knows there are enough raw materials in Detroit to build a fleet of mini-subs." !!!!!!!!!!?!!

but seriously, when I was in the states I could never work out if the weekly world news etc was *supposed* to be satire or not... What do whoever buys it think it is? Anyway, its covers always made me laugh in the checkout queue of safeways... 😀

they are so small they may be able to get into your local sewer system!

That's no good, the alligators would eat them all.

I have some swamp land in Florida that I can sell for a great price too.

Wonder what old batboy is up to now, last I heard he had a crush on one of Dubya's daughters

I do remembering reading a report about Iraq trying to aquire a few old Russian subs but i dont remember hearing if they acutally did or not. Besides if Iraq did have a sub there would be no way in hell they could get past our listening post.

May Mackenzie: Charlie, hand me the paper.
Charlie Mackenzie: Mom, I find it interesting that you call The Weekly World News "the paper." A paper contains facts.

It would be a coffin the moment it entered combat.

"That lake is larger than the entire state of Israel and the sub is quite small, making it extremely difficult to detect on sonar.

$hit just use a fish finder.😀

Sounds like a fish story to me.

I guess you haven't heard of a Russian Sub we like to call THE RED OCTOBER!!!!!

Cripse....sometimes you people just don't think. 😛

The subs Iraq was looking to purchase from the russkies werent quiet enough to slip past our listening devices placed around our nations waters. On top of that, the sub-class in question couldnt escape our Coast Guard if it wanted to. So the insane idea there are Iraqi subs in lake Michigan is extremely far fetched to say the least. The idea that someone would post this stupid material and try to pass it off as serious, lends credibilty to the idea that most of our "new" members are intelligence challenged former AOL'ers.

It's a tabloid, I am pretty sure the guy posted it for a few laughs.

Mmmm... Not quite. They did acquire a bunch of Russian diesel subs. When those are running on batteries, they're quieter than a Los Angeles class attack sub. But they have to snorkel something like twice a day to run the diesel to charge the batteries. That's a buzzkill.

However, last I heard, all but 2 of the subs were docked due to lack of maintenance. (That was last year though, could have changed...)

Possible way they could get close to US soil: Come in on the surface at night with diesels running. Our SOSUS sensors would think they were fishing boats or some such. During the day they'd be recognized, but at night... Once they're here (like if they came up the St Lawrence river) they just put around like a fishing boat when it's time to charge batts, and disappear when they can run silent.

Of course, a boat that large would be detectable by ACTIVE sonar. How well would active sonar work in a lake though? The echoes would be a PITA to sort out... Though I'm sure our ships have computers able to do it for us.

As for the MrGoodbar boats in the Weekly World News.... 😀
