The issue of Saddam Hussein's continuing influence in Iraq is as much about symbolism as it is about whether he is still in any kind of position to direct attacks on the coalition forces.
This was true for Uday and Qusay.
Few believed they were actually able to send gunmen out onto the streets, certainly not in any co-ordinated way.
But they were so feared that many Iraqis felt they could not rule out that they could one day face retribution for supporting the coalition.
Uday and Qusay Hussein died in the gunfight
Those fears will presumably have subsided now but for some people they may not disappear until Saddam Hussein has been silenced.
