Col. Matthew F. Bogdanos, a Marine reservist who is investigating the looting and is stationed at the museum, said museum officials had given him a list of 29 artifacts that were definitely missing. But since then, 4 items ? ivory objects from the eighth century B.C. ? had been traced.

"Twenty-five pieces is not the same as 170,000," said Colonel Bogdanos, who in civilian life is an assistant Manhattan district attorney.

There is no doubt that major treasures have been stolen. These include a lyre from the Sumerian city of Ur, bearing the gold-encased head of a bull, dated 2400 B.C.; a Sumerian marble head of a woman from Warka dated 3000 B.C.; a white limestone votive bowl with detailed engravings, also from Warka and dated 3000 B.C.; a life-size statue representing King Entemena from Ur, dated 2430 B.C.; a large ivory relief representing the Assyrian god Ashur; and the head of a marble statue of Apollo, a Roman copy of a fourth century B.C. Greek original.

Ever notice the news that makes the US look bad gets blown way out of proportion, and the news that makes us look good gets ignored?

Really? If you watch Fox all you will ever see is cheerleading and negative news severely downplayed.

Those darn looters must have been slacking off; just getting too hard to find anyone capable of a good day's looting anymore. Too bad, those original estimates of losses were pretty impressive.

Stick with news channels that only report the negative about this administration then. You will be much happier that way.

First place I'd look for them is anyone who worked at the museum.

In the same way, every time a suspect chemical drum is found, we hear all about it. Did you hear the negation or conformation that what was found wasn't, in fact, NBC? I didn't think so, because neither did I.

Yes and keywords such as suspected and futher analyzed where used. And yes even foxnews reported when suspected sites were found not to be what was first suspected.

I was under the impression that we found the "smoking gun" WMDs already?

Of course. I'm not purporting that the news stories were false, only that they recieved a pretty inordinate amount of attention considering their unconfirmed nature.

I heard yesterday that they think the looting was an inside job...now they are linking it to organized crime..

Something is strange here. In the original thread about this, the one condemning the US for allowing the theft, there were 141 posts. In this thread, there are only 17 posts. Is it now not all that important?

The museum is empty, and volumes of records were destroyed; there has to be more than 25 items missing, doesn't there?

Ok, let me rephrase that: it's not completely empty, but from the reports I've seen, there's not a hell of a lot still there. I just find it hard to believe that only 25 items are missing.

Actually from the video I have seen, there is still quite a bit of stuff there.

That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard ! Who do you work for, Bush and Co. !?
Let me see, I rob $100,000 from a bank and when they ask me how much I took, I tell them $29, so they tell me, OK. Of course that's what the museum officials said.
I guess Bush?s cultural advisors resigned over 29 pieces of Iraqi artifacts !! just let me know how moronic would that be ! at least we still have people with high ethical and moral values, that holds great respect for ancient civilizations, who refused to be part of the government of arrogant retards.

And, of course, the administration is putting absolutely no resources to recovering the artifacts that were STOLEN. CNN: Thousands of Iraqi artifacts found by US Customs agents. Here's a relevant quote for you:
Agents of the Bureau of Immigration and Customs (ICE) said that so far they have photos and documentation to confirm only 38 items from the museum are still missing. Although they suspect additional pieces may have been stolen, they declined to speculate on the scope of the additional uncatalogued items that may have been looted.

Is that "stupidest", too?

It's great they have found over 40,000 pieces. If the museum officials would cooperate completely they might even be able to find the rest.
