How can Iraq break our neck if it has no major military (a condition of the Gulf War)?

Some similar way to 19 Saudis?

I hope you don't mean that. If you do, you are now in the running for biggest idiot that visits here award.

don't think that tops ScottyB saying Hitler was a better man than Bush...
No, but it does put him in the running.

It's ScottyB out front, with Hagbard, Thera, and Czar close behind. Wait a minute....moving up fast on the outside is WalMart1564....he's making a hard charge towards the front. Ladies and gentlemen what an unbelievable effort.....

Who will win? Tune in next week for the next episode of As the ATOT Wackos Turn.

That you put Czar in there and not me amazes me... Czar makes arguments, backs them up, discusses and sometimes ownes you so bad you would need a week off to get your strenght back...

My main concern is Iraq possibly using chemical or biological weapons on our troops in a last ditch effort to inflict as much damage possible and I have a feeling there will be more casualties than the last Gulf War. Hopefully arrogance and complacency has been beat out of our troops and military planner's heads.
I really don't think the Iraqi generals would go through with an order to use chemical or biological weapons against U.S. troops. Doing so would almost assuredly mean we would use nuclear weapons against them.

This is all great if you are going to be there and taking that risk personally... are they going to use everything they got? what would you do if someone invaded the US?

Sometimes you forget that the people of irak does not view you as the great savior but as the great satan that destroys what they have built up...

Sometimes you just forget to think...

My money is one a war lasting less than a month...

Anyone read about America's battle plan for day 1 and 2? They will call it "A-day". So many precision guided cruise missles will be dropped that the military is banking on the Iraqis giving it up almost immediately. It is designed to have the same effect of a nuclear strike, just with conventional weapons. It will make Desert Storm look like Sunny Oasis...

Another interesting fact: The US's military spending is nearly equal to the rest of the WORLD COMBINED. There has never been a super power like we are now, and may never be again.

I agree completely. Czar does not belong in that sorry group at all.
Hagbard doesn't deserve to sniff czar's stained underwear :D

Maybe he's changed....but back when I first noticed him he was just as bad as the others I mentioned.

The Iraqi people may think that of us but it's only because they don't know any better. Just like the Japanese fed their citizens lies about us during WWII and had them convinced we were murderous baby eaters. The Japanese were so brain washed that women and children jumped off cliffs on Iwo Jima rather than risk being "captured" by U.S. forces. It's chilling to watch old men, women, children, and women with babies in their arms jump to their death because they were so brainwashed. I would imagine that some in Iraq feel the same way due to their government feeding them lies about the U.S. Won't they be surprised when we come in, run out the dictatorship, free them, feed them, build them schools and hospitals, and generally make Iraq a better place. That's the difference between the U.S. and the past superpowers of the world. We don't go to war in order to conquer or build empires, we do it to protect ourselves, and for just causes in the world. Whenever we defeat a country we rebuild them afterward and give them a better and more free life.

No, my study of history has led me to those conclusions. Go ahead and try to refute the facts.......

The US has plenty of evil points, but compared to the other countries with our kind of power we have been saints.

Your point being? I don't seem to remember the U.S. invading or declaring war on Chile.

To be fair it's certainly a borderline case, but as per my understanding US assitance was instrumental in getting Pinochet into power, and, for that matter, bumping off Mossadeq in Iran to cement the power of the Shah (though I really, really need to check my notes on this).

So the US didn't defeat or even attack Chile, but its record isn't pure as the wind-driven snow. Better than could be expected by anybody reasonable.

Not perfect, but considering the power of the U.S. it could be much MUCH worse. Can you imagine what the world would be like if the former Soviet Union had won the Cold War and was the world's only superpower now?

The Shah would have probably been a better example since the CIA was heavily involved in his coming to power. Still a different story than what I was referring to though.

it's my personal humble opinion that when the US does stuff opaquely it gets into trouble, and when it does stuff transparently (like iraq) it doesn't.

the example of the shah came late to mind because i'd just read of a movie on Pinochet.

The US' example isn't ideal--it could be better, but all things considered it's better than any other hegemon to date.

That'd be all well and good but can the U.S. afford to build up Iraq with the economy in the state that it is in?

Sure. In a way it will help spur our ecomomy since most of the goods and material we will need to rebuild Iraq will most likely come from American companies.

Well, if Iraq starts producing large quantities of oil, and the price drops to $10 a barrel again , that will boost our economy.....

Definitely a left of center source . . . the perspective is slanted but the account is historically accurate.
