Yet I still come home every day and play computer games and watch TV. PM me when something happens that'll change that, and I'll give a shit about arguing about nonsense.

The US got to build the worlds largest, most expensive, embassy right smack in the middle of the cradle of civilization.
A fortress and city itself
From that golden tower, they can send out their missionaries and mercenaries and keep a close eye on the heathens
It's practicably right out the Bible stuff
:)

This wouldn't be an issue if we had handled Iraq the old fashioned style. Think of all the oil, treasure, cash, art, .etc that we could have taken from that conquered land! Entire civilizations in the past were subsidized to a very high degree simply due to plunder, some even got rich!!

Of course those damn liberals would have their panties in a bunch.

It is well known that democracy is contagious. We setup two democracies in and around the middle east and, a few years later, the locals in the nations near these democracies overthrew their dictators and established democracies themselves.

For years now I have said that was the true reason we went into Iraq.

Without separation of religion from state you have a Theocracy not a Democracy,

We set up a Sharia state not a Democracy in Iraq, unless you consider women second class citizens not capable of choosing who they can marry based on their religion enforced by the state , (under Saddam they had more rights), but men can marry anyone they want and the woman has to change her religion not them.

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Iraqi Laws and Procedures
The Iraqi Social Status (civil) Law follows the Islamic Sharia (Islamic legislation). Under Islamic law, an Iraqi Muslim female may not marry a non Muslim male. However an Iraqi Muslim male may marry a Muslim, Christian, or Jewish female.

Marriage of a Muslim to a Non-Muslim
Muslim women in Iraq are legally prohibited from marrying a non-Muslim. Therefore, the non-Muslim male must convert his religion to Islam and file a petition with the Social Status Court to declare that he is Muslim. Muslim men in Iraq are permitted to marry non-Muslim women if they are Christian or Jewish only. If the woman belongs to any other religion, she must convert to Islam.

But hey let's keep drinking the corporate/government Koolaid and redefine words because we can, because the shit we are going to eat magically tastes better if we call it chocolate ice cream.

I guess I should have clarified, I am referring to the OLDE style, prior to airborne bombs and when old had an e at the end. Think Romans, Barbarians, Vikings, .etc. Plunder and the promise of it was a huge motivation.

There is still plunder to be found.
Look at all the military members who never deployed ,or did their tour in Kuwait, or sat in a FOB the whole time and yet swear that they are Medal of Honor winners
They are plundering us for free drinks and our gratitude

He isin't lying, lots of people deployed to Iraq multiple times and never exerienced anything. They come back and basically won the war for us. Anyone bragging about their tour is lying threw their teeth.

My cousin got shot the fuck up and he brags about people that he killed (with pictures) because he's mentally fucked up from the experience. So that's not entirely true. I guess he could be lying, but he most definitely was in one firefight.

I personally lucked out and avoided direct combat in two tours. My job wasn't necessarily the safest thing to be doing and there were certainly close calls.

I know a pizza delivery guy in Chi says the same thing about his job ;)

Haha wouldn't doubt it depending on the neighborhood. I have a friend who is a firefighter on the south side and hes definitely seen more fucked up stuff than me.

Oh there are definately exceptions no doubt, but I would imagine they have issues. I knew a guy who came in telling the recruiter "I just want to jump out of planes and kill people" and he most certainly did, there are just so few of them out there though that the statement holds water.

Most of all my buddies who eventually got out (or still in like me) never talk to anyone about it unless its with people who were there.

Christ I have 3 myself and my old man still won't bring up the conversations he does with his 2 buds about nam.

Agreed brother. After being out for 5 years, I'm actually going active duty again in 4 days :D

(1) It appears women can marry anyone as long as they switch religion

(2) Respecting other people's cultures means you have to respect even the parts you don't like.
