Just like with Vietnam, most thin skinned, weak minded people can't see the importance of what we did and have sacrificed... We allowed China to win in Vietnam and looked what happened. They've grown larger and larger and within my children's lifetime will OWN America.... Thank you hippies and freeloaders.....

Go live in France you weak $&*%!

China's ascendancy is because of our failure in Vietnam? Strange, communist Vietnam and China had a shooting war with tens of thousands dead in 1979. What does Vietnam have to do with China's economic growth?

We pulled out of Vietnam in 73 promising South Vietnam military support and training. Our promises were only partly fulfilled, and Saigon fell to North Vietnam in 75. Similarly, Iraq could degenerate into faction and civil war without our stabilization. Our failure in Vietnam demoralized our nation, but we eventually recovered from it. All of southeast Asia did not turn communist with the fall of South Vietnam; domino theory was wrong. The question is, what consequences for the region and the United States will failure in Iraq bring? And is our long-awaited withdrawal premature?

1) Civil war, Destabilization of region and if Sunni wins with AQ help a launching off point for Islamic revolutions in Jordan and Syria, both secular despotic police states with majority Sunni there itching for a fight.

2) Not really. We done fucked up and can't stay forever... nature has to take it's course. Sooner the better IMO because it's a bottomless money and bodies pit otherwise. Another way to look at it is divide and conquer. If they at war with each other keeps eye off of us and they may tire of fighting once a few million die.

I still think the idea of an Iraqi Confederation of ethnic states that Vice President Biden championed had potential.

Problem with that one was Iran and Turkey don't want independent Kurd state. The former ruling class Sunni's become economically marginalized since all oil is in Shi'a south or Kurd North so our allies like Jordan or Saudi (Sunni majority) will never go for it.

500-600 people still die in sectarian violence across Iraq each month http://original.antiwar.com/updates/2010/08/03/tuesday-50-iraqis-killed-118-wounded/

And it's increasing as pull out, well sorta pull out, looms. As bribes run out to beg Sunni to stop killing US and Shi'a - Queta flag is rising again for Sunni will never live under who they consider infidels rule. That's why they don't vote and why no govt has been formed 5 months after vote. Iraq is historically Sunni domain and must remain so. Should be interesting when Saudi starts helping their sunni brothers and Iran their shi'a. I guarantee a civil war and maybe much larger with regional skirmishes too..

Will Obama be sucked back into the unwinable war?

LOL, the first troops in were ordered not to protect borders or the UN supplies and you are surprised that we didn't do what we were ordered not to do?

Neither Afghanistan where we did have the Taliban and Al Quaida rounded up at one time and then got told to leave them alone and go to Iraq or Iraq where we were told not to secure the UN bunkers so that they could possibly get WMD's from somewhere can be won today.

No one wants them to be won either, chaos creates opportunities, you deal with the lowlifes and get whatever you want, dealing with an actual government will cost a sheitload more.

Those were just show wars to make us think the reds weren't a united force hell bent on world domination. Crafty bastards.

I don't think that Iran will give a shit, Iraq though... but then again these behaeaders of kids and drowners of kids were supported by the US AFTER the US suppored Saddams mission to gas them.

PKK was a terrorist group supported by the US while at the same time covered up because Turkey is a NATO nation.

NATO doesn't mean shit anymore though, the US are against protection of NATO countries, i hope we, the Brits remember this next time you come crawling.

The brits can hardly be bothered to brush their teeth or stop their men from wearing women's clothes. Hell they can't even spell words in their own language correctly. I seriously doubt we will come crawling to them for anything except maybe if we feel the need to drink tea that tastes like dirty socks.

Oh God FNE, sorry I will not join in the bashing of Brits are twits movement.

Anyone can make superficial case that any world nationality is the root of all evil, but still the Brits stand tall in shaping world history for the better and in some cases the worse.

For a fairly small in population nation, the number of world geniuses England produced and still produces is perhaps unmatched in human history.
