A while ago I mentioned I thought this could happen but didn't figure on it diplomatically.

If it does happen, it will be a great failure of this administation's proclamation to establish a democracy in iraq.

However Bush will claim 3x the success as soon as the 3 new countries have their first series of faux elections. Can't wait.

It will provide a much easier removal for american troups from iraqi hostility, altho at great expense of the iraqi citizens. It will also procure 3 new countries that can harbor terrorist threats, all from 1 that wasn't in the first place.

As far as US brand aircraft, they sure as hell don't make the 'Airplane' - per se,
what they do is get a sub-contract to make a component that will be installed
on their derivative, and in some cases the subcontract allows them to make
fleet components for other 'like' models. A scoop or duct assy for the foriegn
sales fleet to be used by Israel, Greece, Turkey, Koream Saudi Arabia - you
get the Idea. We still make the plane and do the final and flight, but they and
other countries are sending in component parts. It's called 'Outsourcing'.

It's done that way to guarantee a financial commitment by foriegn governments
and to put a 'carrot' on a stick to lure them to go along with the package deal.
Doing it that way pacifies the local unions as they keep the 'big' hi-value jobs,
but they get to sent several of the labor intensive, remedial, small assebly work
that is low paying and tedious to their 'Foriegn Partners' & everyone lives happily -
everafter. It's beeing done to an even mosre diversified base for the F-35.

Get everyone involved, lower our domestic unit cost, & make it a political issue
so our government and foriegn allies have a 'Third-Rail' item -
Touch & Die to the Polititians that would try to cut jobs and benefits in their own country.

Lessons learned from the cancellation of the B-1 by Carter back in the nid '70's -
put contracts out into each State (or Country) and no Politician dare cut local work.
That is how the B-1B was resurected under Reagan. The plane had been so de-fanged
by budget cuts and parceling out sub-assy work that it had to have it's mission profile
lowered in order to meet the contract requirements.
They ordered a Buick, paid for a Cadilac, then accepted a Chevy Vega..

Are we going to tolerate democracy if it means the possibility of anti-US forces winning elections?

Has anyone (besides the article quoted by OP) really taken to heart (or mind) the fact that "Iraq" as we think of it today, has only existed since the 1920's? It was set up by the British after WWI. It was the remains of areas conquered by the Ottoman (Turkish) Empire, liberated by the Allies. Areas traditionally occupied by (and we can all name at least 3) diverse ethnic, religious and cultural groups were squeezed into a politically invented construct called Iraq. These people NEVER wanted to live together, and the only thing that has held the "Nation" in one piece since has been brutal regimes.

I don't mean to sound redundant, but it seems like many skip over those truths, and then wonder why some folks don't look upon "Democracy" the same way America does.

Ferk -

Thats a fact Jack, I haven't had time to do a construct of the empires that were re-constituted
to form 'Iraq' back then, but it was a quick solution that allowed Brittan to retract from the area
and end the constant attacks on their troops by the indigeonus population - who don't like anybody.
