UNITED NATIONS (CNN) -- The United States has expelled two Iranian security guards at the Iranian Mission to the United Nations for conduct unbecoming to their status, according to a U.S. official.

The two were seen taking pictures of New York City and transportation systems, the official said.

Interesting... should I leave my camera at home next time I go downtown?

Why did you conveniently leave out this part

It was the third occasion that they were spotted videotaping and taking photographs, the official said.

Was this in their job description or something?

The article is extremely short. Is there more info. The individuals where also caught videotaping and it was the 3rd time. How exciting can the transportation system really be?

Maybe they wanted to launch fireworks there on the 4th of July?

I guess someone is jumpy about Islamic fundies setting off bombs in public transportation systems. It's not like efforts to that effect haven't been thwarted before. Add in Iran's connections with terrorist organizations. I don't feel that this was an overreaction, kudos to the people who were taking notice.

Yeah there's not much detail, but going off of what's written I see nothign wrong with filming things or taking pictures. Since when does that mean intent to carry out a terrorist plot or commit a crime? I take my camcorder out and film all kinds of stuff other people would think is mundane. I've went hiking and filmed or pictured Indian Pt. nuclear power plant many times, bridges, whatever. I had a friend who loved the Subway system and for a college project made a web site with all kinds of pictures that seemed pretty boring to me.

But instead we have this prejudism. Since they're Iranians, they must be terrorists. Sad world.

Kudos to people who stereotype

I didn't quote that part because it 'conveniently' means nothing. It's not like it's a third time they beat their wife, third time they were caught driving drunk, third time stealing- it's the third time someone spotted them taking harmless photographs

How do you know there isn't more to the story? If we found out these guys were known spies we might send them home for something like this rather than make a big deal out of it.

I don't know, but why should I assume anything? I'm going by what was reported. If they were known spies I'm sure the official would've said so.

I heard this on the news. They were taking pictures of landmarks and maping them out.

If I went to the local Barnes & Noble I can find many detailed maps which show landmarks AKA points of interest AKA popular tourist destinations.

Was there anythign else in that news report that perhaps indicates some criminal activity ? That seems to be the missing piece of this story.

Fvck these people

They are Govt. Security officers from an oppressive Muslim country that happens to chant death to america and previously had a leader who basically told his people to terrorize Americans who were in their country and took almost 70 of them hostage for over a year

Why should we NOT view Iranian Govt. Security Officers with suspicion?

What if they were parked out in front of a Nuclear Facility and were standing there with a large video camera for hours.. Is that illegal? Probably not.. but should we continue to let them do it?

Sarcasm meter indicates possible sarcasm.

How about ..

The Iranian GOVERNMENT is an enemy of America

The people there know they are being oppressed and want Democracy... but if you will notice that Iran is allied with China and what do the Chinese do to people who want Democracy - the same thing the Iranian Govt does - beat and murder them - Tianenman Square and the recent College Student uprising in IRan.

The Iranian government arms, trains, and aids terrorist organizations hostile to us and our allies. This isn't about stereotypes, it's about putting 2 and 2 together.

Sure their government is pretty &*%$ed up but that gives no one the right to sterotype the people of Iran or make wild accusations. And China is one of our major trading partners, perhaps if our politicians really valued human rights and spreading 'democracy' they would not support such regimes with so much commerce?

Are you really trying to defend your position that all Iranians are terrorists?

The people who were taking pictures were Iraninan GOVERNMENT employees.

Im glad they threw these guys out. The fact of the matter, regardless of what the neo-libs spew, the enemy America is facing right now involves middle eastern islamic terrorists. Therefore, if you are part of middle eastern decent you are viewed with legitimate suspicion. Dont like it? Quit wrapping your heads in towels and join the 21st century.
