Trump is so desperate for validation he has an imaginary conversation with a Democrat President. Trump is just trying to spread around the blame for this debacle. But the reality is he's straight up lying.

Considering Trump is the one making the claim, the best guess is it was either Lincoln or Washington. This imaginary Democrat President came to me, tears in his eyes, and said, ‘Sir, sir, I wish I’d obliterated Iran like you’re doing!

I get it! ... It's a really difficult situation. If Trump really won the war, he would have his ships controlling the Strait. Closing the straight was 10000% a predictable move by Iran. Anyone smarter than a box of rocks would tell you that's exactly what would happen if you start a war with Iran.

Trump wants Hormuz open. He thinks its a participation prize. He wants others to do the work. Trump doesn't understand what "winning" a war means. The Iranian people aren’t part of a video game, they come from a culture thousands of years in the making, they just aren’t going to lie down. He’s trying to blame NATO for his criminal war, after threatening NATO allies. He now expects Europe to send their young men, women and military ships to die and be destroyed in place of the US Navy.

He's insane and more world leaders need to call him out.

The really transparent thing is he's asking the UK for an aircraft carrier. As the US already has one (a couple?) in the region the only reason I can think that he wants ours is because the US navy told him to fuck off when he said that he wanted them to open the straits with one.

Being an avid watcher of Victory at Sea suggested to me that firefighting was part of the basic training and duties onboard naval vessels, right up there with painting things shooting things. I guess I was misled.
