Iran Wishes Jews A Happy New Year

I think its really an old guard vs new guard issue. Younger Iranians want open internet, social media and a more open society. Older people want to keep control.
I bet the young will win like they always do.

Actually, the young LOST around 1979. Iran WAS heading in the right direction. There was rock music, mini-skirts, Levis, bikinis, Coca-Cola, etc.

I'd like to think that because those young back in the 70's have now aged and have taken over roles of responsibility and leadership their parents once held they have much more influence over their fates than they did as youths.

IMO, the freedoms they once felt that were restricted after the takeover are still in their hearts and I get the feeling if given the opportunity to do so, they will have their way, although it will be tempered against the religious leadership that will resist change only because they want to keep the power and influence they now enjoy.

Irans supreme leader just said the Jewish state of Isreal won't exist in 25 years:

Like the Koran and the bible, Iran likes to say both peaceful and hateful messages and hope people only pay attention to the ones they want.

The dude is almost 80, so he won't exist in 25 years, or be too senile to care what happens to Israel by then. When you are an old fart, you can run your big mouth for free.

"God willing, there will be no such thing as a Zionist regime in 25 years. Until then, struggling, heroic and jihadi morale will leave no moment of serenity for Zionists," he said, according to IRNA.
Makes sense. Having made an independent Palestine impossible, Israel will eventually have to integrate the Pals & grant them equal rights, kinda like S Africa.

Here's hoping they get rid of the Supreme Leader and guardian council

Israel isnt really a jewish state. It's a Zionist state. The Zionists want to destroy all jews. (By their actions, and by their deeds, that is how you shall know them.)

Not likely any time RSN. OTOH, Iran's govt can evolve into something where the Mullahs have a lot less say in the day to day life of Iran's people.

This. And time isn't on the side of the old guard obviously.

Religious cover: it was proven historically to be the most hypocrite yet effective way to pass your political agenda along with securing support of the public.

Hmm this seems to follow Iran governments line of the last couple years. They seem to be differentiating pretty strongly between the Jewish people and the state of Israel. I mean, given all the "death to Israel" (and not, "death to Jews", as far as I can tell) screaming of their religious elite. How they would possibly hope to achieve this without harming the population and "deepening the respect" remains a mystery.
As far as I can tell theres an intensifying internal fight between Rohani (whos pretty "progressive" compared to his predecessor) and Khamenei, who always seems to at least try to interfere.

Of course the young will win eventually because the old die off. The question is how long will it take them to win.
