But with George War Bush at the helm, you can count on another war anyways.
You won't see anything until he's re-elected, barring a major Internation Incident of course. I think the Elite have a "one war per term" rule...more than that causes too much uncertainty. 😉

I would have to agree. The threat of another war would hinder the economy at this point.

at this point i hope its a republican who gets re-elected...
Democrats rather just put their head in the sand and hope things get better...

Yeah but my 401K was worth a lot more when ole Slick Willie was at the helm.
Go Lieberman!

A comforting thought to families of the 9/11 victims.

Consider how the economy wll be doing when 9/11 becomes a bi-annual event. There is no economy without security.

So what is the topic ???

then lets neither of us vote and save the trip...😉

I think Liberman... the milkman will do just fine... the problems we now face will be eradicated by common senseical muse... a soothing sound of doves cooing in the white house gave all a good nite... up up and away......

Of course there were Iranians who were moderate and were making overtures to the US, then Bush put them on the shite list of evil. You probably do not want to recall that after 9/11 there was one country who had demonstrations in support of America. Nope, not Saudi Arabia, Egypt, no it was Iran. Bush slapped them full in the face, and people who supported the warming of relations went WTF? Now they think that maybe the US is the invader Osama portrayed us to be. Bushed fscked up a perfectly good diplomatic opportunity because he is a bull in a china shop. What to do about Iran? I have no good solution. Bush and Co. wrecked the best one we had.

On the subject of Iran.

Can someone tell me why a country with the large reserves of nat. gas and oil that Iran has, needs a nuclear reactor?

Probably to do research on nuclear weapons. I do not believe that is illegal.

Iran has a rapidly growing population and few natural resources besides oil and natural gas. If I was the Ayatollah . . . I would do quite a few things in the same manner. The US and its western cohorts will have an insatiable appetite for fossil fuels well into 21st century. Why waste a resource for domestic use when it can be sold to the highest bidder on the world market? The ability to build weapons capable of blowing stuff up is a fringe benefit.

It is not illegal and I dont mind other countries having nukes, but I prefer them to be a bit more stable...

I agree. I do not care for it at all, but there have been a few threads of late which in effect suggest we ought to attack whomever we are uncomfortable with. That bothers me, as I am sure it does you too.

Iran is a signatory of the NPT.

Interesting observation!

Don't forget the de facto reasons for going nuclear: international prestige and self defense. These nations look at China as an example of how a country that was once demonized and rather isolated can gain security and enormous trade opportunities partyly by going nuclear...all the while keeping its original form of government. The big boys won't pick on you, even if you ram one of their spy planes and force it to land on your turf.

Do they have one or is it gonna be the opposite whatever Bush says? Like Iraq.
Iran seems much more of a threat then Iraq was so what are our great liberal thinkers saying we should do about them?

Ehhh... Iran is much more of a threat? much more of nothing is what?

Yeah, go ahead, mighty soldiers, some of you might loos your lives but at least you know the cause was worth fighting for...

What is the cause? a world empire? control the oil and you control the world?

You COULD label me a conspiracy idiot if not for the very fact that i am correct...

*sighs* so iran or syia, and after that? of course egypt... then jordan... then whatever...

To me, the thought of the US just being nuked off of the planet sounds like a nice idea... just to stop a neverending war... a war that will eventually lead to a world war...

You better be ready for the refusal, we are...

Good post I think you'd enjoy this piece on "just war thoery" Here

It's a little different than I studied but still important to understand what nukes effectivly do for peace.

Can they not pursue peaceful nuclear power?

They probably can, but it would require inspections to make sure they are playing by the rules.

Thanx for providing the laugh of the day... yeah... those inspections sure did make a difference in irak... The world was irrelevant, the inspectors were not good enough, now nothing has been found...

How great.. and now .. iran? rewind and repeat... oh, but of course...

I expect, although I do not know, that they may withdraw from it before tests commence. Of course we shall see.
