Iran's foreign minister says the female British detainee seized by Iran last week will be freed Wednesday or Thursday.

I guess its good news however its also very puzzling. Why would they only free the woman?

Link is now up. Click here

PR.

That and they probably cannot protect her from their own people.

Either it is a sign of the Iranians coming to their senses or they intend to try the rest of the sailors (the men) in the manner they have suggested.

The second one of those would be an exceedingly unwise idea.

I hope I am wrong but I half-suspect they are returning her to try to soften the public response in the UK if/when they send the others to trial.

She's been all over the media (in the UK at least) which is working against them in a big way. Hardly a coincidence that the only parents to speak out are related to the only female prisoner. It's continuing bad PR for Iran to keep her and this stops it, now it's restricted to everyone bashing Iran for arresting all of them in the first place. It also makes it more awkward for Britain to escalate.

why would it be more awkward?

They still will have 14 British Citizens in their custody. Hell if anything it makes it easier to something really nasty now. No more worrying about getting her killed.

Iran have made a concession so it appears to the general public that some progress has been made without serious escalation. Iran are still holding 14 members of the British armed forces illegally so escalation would be warranted, but it makes it more difficult for the UK government to demonstrate that they've exhausted all options when Iran stonewall for ages then 'suddenly' decide to release someone.

There's obviously a risk for anyone who signs up but the government doesn't want a disaster on their hands either.

It is curious, but I take this as indication that they did not want to subject her to whatever severe punishment is about to come down on the men. I believe it spells trouble for those who remain captive.

Yep; let's just hope it turns out to be some publicity/rhetoric type of stunt. Otherwise this could get real ugly.

if Iran gets stupid and hurts those guys, between the 2 Navy Carrier Groups, the US air force, and all the british air power, that whole country would be hurt real real bad with just 48 hours of arial bombing.

im sure the US will stay out of it, but if the brits as us to help we will get involved.

No, majority of the islamic insurgents/islamic countries protect their women HARDCORE, i.e. can't show skin, always have to be with a male, etc.

Majority of the kidnappings are of men not women. I think I've only heard of one woman being beheaded, but rest were released?

I mean, when the Abu Grahib story came out, the fact that a female interrogator pretended to be on her period (and showing fake blood) infuriated a lot of Muslims.

And that is why Iran, probably, released the woman. If Iran is going to get dirty with the men, might as well let the female go.

I'm too lazy to search other threads, but aren't you two gents part of the torture gang around here?

Videos of the soldiers were released on CNN a few hours ago. Showed some of them eating and showed the female talking as well as a letter she had written to her family. She claimed that they were in Iranian waters. Whether or not she was coerced into saying that remains to be seen. The soldiers "appear" to be unharmed.

LOL have you seen her? She's butt ugly, I don't think any of the Iranians are in a hurry to tap that.

I imagine they will hold the men for a while longer, let the media do their hype job.

Then they will release the men as things heat up, and it will come out that the men were treated and fed well.

It's all a game.

Wtf does her being a women have to do with her life being at risk?

You should stop posting. Your posts are complete garbage.

You have no idea what the hell goes on inside Iran for you to make such bigotry posts.

If anything Islam teaches men to stay the hell away from women. Not attack them.

Water boarding Al'Qaeda. Yes, I support that. Better, their members should be killed outright.

You two, among others here root for militant Islam and rail against western interests. You have betrayed us in every way. Join them, but when total war begins we will not forgive your allegiance.

I really want to have a good laugh at this, but I can't. Crazies like you are so numerous that it is much more scary than it is funny.
