This is what I thought could be an interpretation that could save face. The earliest the Stennis would come back in a normal rotation would be in a year or two.

If one wants to think so but who would be the principle participants? Iran against the western world? If having many nations engage in a war qualifies as a World War then I submit the damage would be extraordinarily one sided. Certainly there would be complications and some potentially severe, but that will always be the case as long as we rely on oil as derived in it's current form.

i disagree. by that logic the wars in afganistan and iraq were actually WWIII because of the multinational force.

WWIII would need multiple beligerants fighting on multiple fronts. WWII had battles in the atlantic ocean, pacific ocean, indian ocean, europe, africa, asia, and the middle east.

any battle with iran would be on their soil and, briefly, the persian gulf. there would also be the remote chance that terror cells would operate in the US or a European country. overall, most fighting would be done on iranian soil.

Maybe Nebor said it all, sure we invaded Iraq for less, but for the USA it quickly turned into buyers remorse. And US invasions of Iran may turn far more expensive that the 2 trillion or so plus we have pissed down a rat hole invading Iraq. And that assumes that Iraq stays stable
which is far less than a slam dunk.

While many other countries may ask, if the USA can do it to Iran, why should they assume it won't happen to them next?

The US has had a long series of really stupid sec's of Defense. Robert McNamera in Vietnam. Donald Dumsfeld who told GWB Iraq would be a piece of cake, and now Leon Pinhead who assures us we can keep the Persian Gulf open? When oil speculators will push oil prices up over a thousand dollars a barrel within seconds of the first bomb falling.

All based on speculation with no evidence backing it that Iran is pursuing a nuclear weapon. Pushed by the very same idiots who assured us that Iraq had WMD. At least the threatened oil sanctions will not bite for six months giving us some room for a return to some sanity.

The retalliation for attacking one of our carriers should be an endless bombing run on their civilian population, shortly after destroying every ship in their harbor and bowing up their pipelines and their oil loading platforms, their navy, their air force and all their ant-aircraft and radar installations, and all their Electric plants and water purification plants, and their refinery and all the pipelines in and out of their country.
