That offer is as sincere as Spidey offering to give Obama a hug.

This is not Iran's government.

It is the equivalent of the Red Cross.
Iran's government has not made an gesture.
A major point that SE chose to ignore.

lol, always looking for a reason to troll, EK? i never said anything about the government. the article doesnt say anything about the government. however, the iranian government could have prevented aid from going out but it didnt. the iranian people are of a civilized nation that provides humanitarian relief. you are too blinded to see that.

He didn't say they weren't did he? He said it wasn't the government that offered the help, I thought it was pretty clear.

Iranian rescuers and aid workers are on standby to fly to New York City to provide assistance to those affected by Hurricane Sandy, the head of Iran’s Red Crescent Organization said on Wednesday.

at this time have received no official offer of assistance from the Iranian government

Did SE actually read the article or just look at the headline.

this does not concern you, xj0hnx.

What concerns us? How about this!

But the organization, the Islamic version of the Red Cross, is closely affiliated with Iran’s government. According to documents disclosed by WikiLeaks, American officials suspect that some Red Crescent employees operate as spies when providing help in other countries.

We don't need Iran's help and they know it. This is at best a propaganda move (which you are glad to help with) and most likely that plus a little help for those who aren't here on our behalf.

Bait not taken.

I think the OP posted this because he fears that Americans hate Iranians, and he wanted to show that they are decent people.

The thing is -- Americans don't hate Iranians. They hate and fear the Iranian government, just like most Iranians do.

The Red Crescent offering aid really isn't news. It's their mission. And the problem most Americans have isn't with the average Iranian, it's with the Islamic extremists who control the country.

True. Though to be fair media loves nothing more than a story on negativity of Iran.

Even if its their job, and they like helping people reguardless of race/religion. It is still great to hear people in a country we have tensions with willing to help.

From the next paragraph...

Dealing regularly with floods and earthquakes, Iran’s Red Crescent Organization is experienced in providing immediate assistance following disasters. But the organization, the Islamic version of the Red Cross, is closely affiliated with Iran’s government.

1) We know they are affiliated with the Iranian government. However, the Iranian government was not the one that cam out and stated they will make the skills/experience of the Iranian Red Crescent available to the US to assistance in the aftermath.

2) We know that their Red Crescent is infiltrated with spies.

However, it is policy throughout the world for a government to formally declare(provide) and/or ask for assistance to a disaster.

This way proper documentation and support can be made available for the host country and control political gaffes.

Do we help the Iranian people in time of need? I recall an earthquake or two...

If we do, then we most certainly should appreciate it when they return the favor. Cooperation between two people is a good foundation for avoiding war.

This exactly. Every Iranian (they call themselves Persian, actually) who I've known, and it's more than a handful, I've liked.
