Iran's Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Monday that Iran is set to deliver a "punch" that will stun world powers during this week's 31st anniversary of the Islamic revolution, AFP reported.

"The Iranian nation, with its unity and God's grace, will punch the arrogance (Western powers) on the 22nd of Bahman, February 11, in a way that will leave them stunned," Khamenei, who is also Iran's commander-in-chief, told a gathering of air force personnel according to AFP.
Anyone have an educated guess as to what the good Ayatollah may be referring to? If he is trying to sound ominous, he certainly succeeded... but, then again, they've been posturing for years, so this could be just-another-chest-pound on his part.

Whataya think?

Part of me thinks something suicidal, but most of me thinks they are becoming like N Korea - a whole lot of sabre rattling. Just as NK fears China should they decide to become unruly, Iran fears Isreal.

But, when dealing with mad men, I guess anything is possible.

Maybe a new missle test or something?

I think the Iranian pilots are pissing in their pants whenever this guy speaks
They know if the man keeps acting like a lunatic they'll have to go to the air and be blown out of the sky by F-22s.

These leaders who rely on fear and hyperbole never end up doing much. Maybe this time he will but more likely just more erections that quickly fade away.

Iran does not fear Israel.

Arab states invaded and declared war on 3 separate occasions without fear of a nuclear response.

Iran is taking advantage of Israel's last-resort policy. It knows it can pretty much do whatever it wants, and Europe won't allow the US to impose stricter sanctions that could cripple Iran economy.

However, with the Likud leadership I sincerely doubt we're going to see Barak-like concessions. Netanyahu has made it very clear a nuclear Iran is unacceptable.

Iran isn't getting enough attention. What ever they have up there sleeve, you can bet it has something to do with inflating the price of crude.

From what I've been reading Iran has been working on a new type of aircraft. I'm guessing that is the "punch" he was talking about.

After a bit of searching I found a picture of the new aircraft here

no, I didn't say that. But the Arab states had no fear Israel was going to use its nuclear weapons even as they openly declared their intentions to "liberate" Jerusalem and push the Jews into the sea.

Iran, too, has no fear of Israeli retaliation.

Just start bombing Iran now.

Just in case they are not a bunch of bumbling idiots.

It is the American way to bomb our enemies and watch them run like rats.

That's for sure - the problem is many Americans don't think there are enemies anymore. We are just one big happy human race, you and me and Ayatollah Khaminai (it even rhymes).

My first inclination was that it would have something to do with money and/or petro... but, as far as I know, the Gulf Monetary Union pact -- the same mentioned in your link -- does not include Iran.

But, it could still have something to do with Iran's own petro... or missiles... or nukes...

I honestly just don't know at this point... which is why I asked what everyone thinks. :)

No fear because no country is going to nuke another for saying naughty words. Iran is more bark than bite and everyone knows it. Everyone also knows that if Iran actually attacked Israel, Israel would throw everything back at it it could. Its entire military and civilian populace would be behind all of it.

It's probably some ultimately meaningless milestone like they've enriched such and such number of rods so now allah is great ad tedium.

That gulfo is interesting. If Europe is seeing potential issues with their Euro I can only imagine what those sh*ty nations will end up encountering.

But Israel is not going to chance a nuclear Iran.

The parrells between soviet-american MAD is intellectually dishonest. the soviet union leadership did not believe the world must be in a state of chaos for the 12th immam to return. they also didn't believe the US needed to be destroyed, nor did they sponsor terrorist organizations that explicitly targeted US civilians in US mainland.

hamas and hezbollah are trained and funded exclusively by syria and iran. imagine if iran handed off a nuclear device to those groups.

either way, a nuclear iran would mean a nuclear arab world, it would end the israeli deterrent that has essentially put the general arab-israeli conflict into a cold war mode.

once the arabs go nuclear israel's life expectancy decreases significantly.

you really think a nuclear middle east will survive without confrontation in 2, 3, 4 or 5 decades?

hell no.

and israel knows it.
