"Iran says its nuclear program is designed solely to produce electrical energy, particularly after its oil wells run dry. "

Dont they have enough oil to last them 20+ years? along with Natural Gas?

Anyways it annoys me that Bush admin seems to do little about NK who already have Nukes...

Is it me or does it seem the US is the only one that cares?(Iran)

Here we go again.

I suppose I need to stock up on popcorn before the attack.

Ya know HJ, I am going out on a limb and take a guess as to what is going to happen. That way people can point at me and laugh if I am wrong. If it provides entertainment value, so be it. Faced worse in my life.

I think that Iran is going to publicly back down and discontinue it's nuke program. I think they are going to allow inspectors in to check out. I really believe they are going to stop trying to build a bomb. I also think they are going to acquire some anyway through the black market as I have stated elsewhere. No, I am not happy about that, but that is what I would do if I wanted nukes in this political climate.

I had to go feed the grandmonsters ahh but, now I've a chance to respond.

First: I don't have a link to my opinion. I looked but no one reported anyone who feels exactly like me... so sans the link I'll opine.

Second: You are among the few whose opinion ought to be held in the highest of esteem. If someone points to your prognostication and smirks, if wrong, at some later date they should be rendered mute and moot.

I view all the goings on from my bias which is; what would I do in the same or similar situation. I fear I'd do exactly as you propose they would do. Why not? They can secure help in the establishment of the reactor facilities to obviate potential melt down scenerios. They can secure their sovereigness through seemingly rational relations with the US and the UN. They are aligned through religious ties (I believe) to all the "stans" of the former Soviet Union who, as I recall, had some issue with Russia and had some nuke stuff lost in their terroritory. They have some internal issues to deal with that must be deUSafied before they can propose some "in your face" attitude with the UN/US. Once this internal issue is sorted out they can be as moderate as they wish while intensifying their security issues. They seem not disposed to the invasion of another nation but, with India/Pakistan and Kashmire always on the burner they must feel some of these issues may result in the need to defend against a area wide war. So, In conclusion, Iran should and probably will adopt a wait and see for public consumption while attaining mainly defensive nuke munitions.

I have a strange feeling that Israel will take care of this reactor before US or UN does.

That would not surprise me but, it really would intensify the anti Israeli sentiment through out the area... besides I doubt they could secure overflight permission from anyone in the area to bomb. So even though Israel would sense a potential threat they'd be powerless to do much about it. Unless they can induce the US/UN to intercede under some bogus scenerio inconsistant with I expect to be moderate near term relations with GortBush and Iran.

Neither did they in 1981, when they destroyed Iraq nuclear reactor.

True but Iran is out of the range of their aircraft without inflight refueling capability. They are essentially a short range defense air force using Fighter/Attack aircraft... for the most part. Maybe they have some cruise missle technology that could do it... but, that would be a precurser to major conflict in the area. I don't think it reasonable to assume they'd do anything like that unless Bush slaps em again.
