ipx/spx trouble!

here's the deal. I'm running internet connection sharing to two pcs from my win2k box. i'm running tcp/ip on both nics. now i have to install the nwlink ipx/spx protocol (experienced users of win2k will know what this means i hope). I only have to do this because starcraft requires it. The only thing is, last time i did this, the other two computers lost the internet capability. See, for starcraft ipx/spx has to be installed on all machines playing (obviously) When I just install it for the other boxes (win98 se, not 2k), sharing still works. Last time i put ipx/spx on my win2k box, it stopped working. Then like a dope, i uninstalled the protocol, which in turn screwed everything up. I just got thru a clean format/install of win2k and i'm trying to do this the right way. My only two questions are.. does nwlink ipx/spx screw with sharing (i'm guessing yes) and if it does, how do i disable it without screwing with clients and protocols and all that other stuff?

thanx for any help you can give,
gemini

Well, I don't think that it really screws up your ICS. But, you will want to check your Network Protocol Binding orders. In Windows 2000, simply RIGHT-CLICK on MY NETWORK PLACES. Goto the Properties. Then, click on the ADVANCED menu option, then ADVANCED SETTINGS. There, you will be able to change the binding orders.

Let me know if you still have problems.

Encouragement:

I'm running IPX/SPX (which is a Novell protocol, BTW) along with TCP/IP on my Win98/W2K network, and Starcraft & the internet are all playing happily.

My setup is a little different, since I don't use W2K as a pass-through for internet access, that goes through a seperate gateway, with TCP/IP only.

Well buddy i have a question for you... i just installed ipx/spx and internet connection sharing works fine, but now starcraft won't work! Neither of us can see each other on the network (in starcraft) (we can ping each other fine) Wait as a matter of fact i can see him, but when i try to connect it says connection failed, or something like that..
do you have any advice for me?

Hmmm. Check to see that the default protocol is the same on both machines. Check to see if the IPX settings are identical. Did you setup NetBIOS over IPX on either client?
