no prices? It is time that 2560x1440 monitors drop a price little bit, so that more of us can afford them. Right now, Dell U2711 is a grand.

I do not understand why 1600p and 1440p monitors are so expensive. Just make some cheap ones so we all can afford them.

The Samsung 27" should be $1199
Who would pay 1199 for some WLED piece of shit when it could and should have an acceptable color gamut level? It also has overdrive.

I also saw an entry for the new high res Panasonic which has a measly 70% color gamut and that really pisses me off. My piece of shit Apple LED 24 in has 68% and it looks like shit (colors are not vibrant or accurate at all) and that's part of why I don't play games as often as I would otherwise in addition to the pisspoor contrast ratio and input lag greater than 5 ms added from the monitor (60hz input gives too much tearing without vsync, which adds a frame on top of the 10ms or so due to the monitor's processing). I don't get why so many people don't care about color gamut. I guess WLED LCDs or something that has burn in (OLED) is the future.

The samsung monitor is a PLS panel, which is functionally identical to IPS. I'm not sure what you're talking about, PLS monitors have excellent viewing angles and color reproduction.

If you want OLED, thats great, but last I heard a 25" OLED screen from sony costs upwards of 5000$.

Can't say for certain, but the 3D IPS LG monitor mentioned is likely not a true 120hz panel. Since the article doesn't mention it, I'd assume it is one of those passive 3D monitors.

Hopefully at some point we'll get 120hz 2560x1600 IPS.

Hopefully by then we will have video cards to produce 100+ frames on current games at this resolution.

Please, no! There's already way too many cheap displays on the market. Some of us prefer quality. Screw the race to the bottom.

I want high end 1600p and 1440p but I also want cheap ones so I dont need to drop a damn grand on a monitor with decent res.

You pay for what you get. I'm so glad i got a 1900x1200 monitor vs the cheap 1900x1080 monitors that flooded the market.

Forget about IPS/PLS.

What we need is OLED monitors. And we need OLED monitors that support 4K resolution. I would gladly drop a grand on one of those.

Although I am very happy with my Dell U2412M until that day comes. :)

OLED monitors which colors fade after few years of 8hr/day use ? No thanks.
Agreed. That's part of why I can't believe that they're the future.

Read what I posted more carefully. It uses a WLED so even if the panel has good color reproduction, it's still limited by the WLED. It also has overdrive which sucks because it increases input lag. 6.7ms can be achieved on a good IPS panel without overdrive and that's not too much ghosting IMO.

Way to bring up issues from 2 years ago. Read up on OLED much? LG has already solved the "blue OLED half-life" issue. OLED TVs will be out at the end of 2012 with long lasting screens.

Doesn't the blue still wear out faster though?

OLEDs suck especially when LCDs could be so much better.

The U2711 has been on sale for as little as $679 in recent months, it does not cost $1k, the Apple Thunderbolt 27" costs $1k.

While i'm all for better tech.

You alone will need 3 way sli with that 570 just to get 30fps at the 4k res you want, which will also mean you will need a bigger psu.

For me no thanks.

I would rather see 120hz 1600p panels.

Affordable OLED monitors are still probably 3-5 years away.

I'm also happy with my IPS 1200p panel.

And last SAMOLED phones still are oversaturated and have bigger blue pixels than others. Perhaps Samsung didn't get the memo?

A new 24" 19x12 IPS panel from LG. I'm glad someone is still putting the effort into these things.:)
