I have a 160GB classic and it freezes, screws up, or just plain crashes on me at least once every other week. It has more problems than my HTC touch pro believe it or not. I use it primarily in the car with a Alpine W505 so I dont know if its just the ipod or the HU or combination of the two.

My iPod's have always been pretty stable, until I connect them to my Pioneer/Premier head unit. The connection is iffy at times and causes some odd little funkyness quite often.

I'm not sure if this is typical for a Sansa View or not. Mine could be defective, so I could try warranty replacement, but I almost don't feel like it and kind of suspect the same issue with another one. I'm just curious if there are other good, 16 GB flash MP3 players out there. If the Nano is the only really solid option, that's surprising.

I returned my Sansa View after trying three copies. All locked up within minutes of playing. Ended up getting a Creative Zen. Glad I did, the Zen rocks.

Thanks. That's enough confirmation for me. I will either wait until I get a Palm Pre (hopefully) with Sprint soon and try to use that, or probably just get an iPod. I'm tempted by the Touch since it seems it'd be easier to use in the car when properly mounted, but it's a bit pricey.

As much as I love and adore my Zen, it isn't a good pmp for the car. The view isn't decent because of the controls.
The Touch is tempting.
I am making the long wait until December for my VZ contract to expire. It's either ATT/iphone time, or hear about VZ iphone, or Palm Pre.
Until then, I make do with mp3's loaded on to CD's, or for long distance driving, I plan ahead and make a longer playlist for the Zen.

That's all I used to do too, MP3 CDs. But I started hearing too many repeats and didn't want to change discs all the time so decided a PMP of some type would be the way to go. I too was considering iPhone but I can't pass up Sprint's prices vs. AT&T. I'm also on Verizon right now and can't wait to drop them next month. So it's either ther Pre with 7.4 GB of user storage or something like a 16 GB iPod Touch for big $$$.

I'd guesstimate that my iPod crashes every 10 hours or so.

What kind? Flash, hard drive? How many songs?

Ipod Touch, so flash. about 9GB of music. It will just stop in the middle of a random song and after about 30 seconds will go back to the home screen. I've flashed to 3 or 4 firmware revisions with no luck.

That's disappointing. At this point I'm gonna wait for the Palm Pre and see how its media playing capabilities are. Then I'll see.
