ipod woes

Mabe I'd be better off posting in some "ipod" forum, but I dont know of any, so I decided to post here
I'm confused about the accessories needed to charge the ipod without my PC. I want to buy the new Video iPod, and I heared that buying a charger for this thing is very confusing. People are complaing that they buy a charger and it turns out they stil need to buy some kind of wire, or the other way around. Can someone tell me EXACLY what I need to buy to be able to charge the ipod from a wall outlet? Keep in mind that I'm talking about the latest Video iPod and NOT the older models. I heared that chging methods are different depending on the model. Thanx.

the ipod wall USB AC adapter that is $29.99 still requires you to plug in your cable that the ipod came with. So, if you don't feel like unplugging the cable from your PC anytime you need to use the AC wall adapter, you're screwed. I got a generic charger w/ cable for $.85 off of eBay, I'll see if I can find one for you...

I didn't think they were different, when I got my Ipod Video I just bought a griffin car charger and a griffin wall charger, and then there's the USB cord that comes with the Ipod package.. I'm pretty sure all the chargers use the same bottom connector.

Hmm.... So tell me if understand this correctly. I can buy something like this from e-bay and I got everything I need to charge it without the PC?
And, this charget it plugs into the ipod itself or there's some kind of a "dock" or "cradle" it plugs into?

yup, this is all you need... no need to use the cable that came w/ your ipod

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but it's better than making a new one.
I have another question. Do you know if this charger can shorten the battery life in any way, since it's not made by apple? What is the usual battery life for those new video ipods? Is it possible to buy new batteries?

there are no guarantees if these chargers may short out your ipod, and battery life for mp3 i think is 14 hrs or something? (it should be available on apple.com), and battery is not end-user replaceable. (you can do it without much effort, but it'd void any warranty)

I didnt ask what's the mp3 battery life. I wanted to know how long does the battery last before you have to get a new one.
Which charger do you use? nad what do you mean by not end-user replaceable?? Means I cant get apple to install a new one once the old one expires?

They last anywhere from 2 to 4 years. I personally can install batteries in my sleep, but that voids the warrenty. Apple does do replacements but charges 99 bucks. I install them for 20 bucks with battery included. So you're better off just not worrying about the battery issue since you can change it yourself for pretty cheap.

2-4 years??!!! Wow.. that's terrible.. after paying $400 for an ipod, I'd expect at least double that.


And how long does that $20 battery last on average?
