Apple is about to release some new products in 2 days. If you haven't made your decision yet, WAIT.

If you plan on taking your iPod running or doing things that may harm the hard drive, I'd go with the Nano. Otherwise, the Video would be awesome.

for those of you that have ipod videos, which case would you recommend? or would it be better to go with one of those clear screen decal protectors?

Yes, the flash based nano would be well suited for jogging, however my iPod mini was a pleasure to jog with. My new video iPod does just as well with jogging.

I bought a silicone case with armband for it on ebay (since Apple does not make one yet themselves for video models).

If I understand your post correctly, that was a vote against the video.

I'm telling you guys the ipod video rocks...
I've had a mini and I've got a nano, the 30GB video, had a PSP and also have a Palm Lifedrive which plays videos. The video on the ipod video is as sharp, bright and clear as the screen on the PSP (though of course not as large).

I know there are other good mp3 players out there that play video(creative, rca, etc), but if you want an iPod and you may want to view video, get the iPod video, you won't regret it.

I'm raising this thread from the dead instead of starting a ne one because it basically is the exact same question that i need to ask.

So...

I can't decide between the Nano and the 30gb model. The 60gb model is tempting but when you add in accessories that is a pretty penny.

1. Want to be used in a gym ala cardio and weight lifting machines.
2. Used in my car
3. My music collection is in approaching 100gb but my itunes is well under 500 songs right now.
4. I do like downloading tv shows but not sure if I have much use for it on the ipod.

So with half the time used in the car and the other half working out should I still go with the HD based model or stick with the Nano?

As someone who owns both and considering your use and preferences, sounds like you might be best off with the nano.

That, considering that you don't really care about having a big chunk of your music collection available at any givenmoment and don't care about the WOW factor of video.

The nano is considerable lighter for work-out use(and if you don't need or don't care about using reading glasses to read the screen on the nano, otherwise go for Video)

Yeah. I keep wavering. Nano would be fine but for only $50 more I can get a ton more storage. Guess that is the main factor I'm thinking of but like you said. What am I going to use that extra space for?

Just bought a 30GB iPod Video. My music collection is 13GB and won't fit on a Nano -- I was sick of "recycling" songs on my 6GB Zen Micro so I just went with a player that would swallow them all up.

would but there is no guarantee that this the rumors are true and there is ALWAYS something better comming out. That is why it might be best for me to go with a nano and then i can always buy something bigger and better in the future.

convert the avi to a full-frames uncompressed, mpeg 2 file.
convert that to a 320x240 m4v or mov file.

it took him a day on a relatively fast system to convert a 1080p batman begins for use on his ipod. it did look frekin sweet though.

What is this 1080p batman begins that you speak of?

ipod Mini!

Actually those are my favorite to work on haha...

I'd probably take a video, but I'm going to wait until the next editions of ipods... they should be pretty sweet...
