iPod Touch vs. iPhone3G

Differences between the iPhone 3G and the iPod Touch: (things the 3G has, the iPod touch does not)
  • 3G/Phone Capabilities (Cellular Internet / SMS / Etc)
  • GPS
  • Camera
  • External Speaker
  • Microphone
  • Bluetooth
  • Free software updates (iPhone 3G is a revenue based subscription model, so updates are free)

The touch has two benefits over the iPhone 3G;
  • Higher memory capacity (32gb available)
  • Thinner (8mm as opposed to 12.3mm on the iPhone 3G)

The touch is a nice device, but for me once I started using it I realized that all the features it had would be better off bundled with a mobile phone.

Does current iPod Touch have that depressed headphone jack that needs a special adapter to use non-OEM ear buds or headphones?

Nope

And neither does the iPhone3G, the headphone jack on the touch is on the bottom though interestingly enough.

Yea, I'm not sure what spurred that design decision.

The 2nd gen iPod Touch does have a speaker. It is behind the metal on the back but actually sounds decent enough to show someone something.

And the iPod Touch doesn't cost you $69.99 a month minimum.

Agreed but the iPod touch isn't replacing a cell phone so the monthly cost argument will vary per individual with the iPhone. For some of us, it was the same as we were paying before.

Another thing that the touch 2g has over the iphone is nike+ software. Man I wish that was on the iphone.
