I'm looking for a radio transmitter for my itouch (1st gen). There are a ton of these things on Amazon, and I was wondering if anyone here has one that works with a touch that they could recommend. I know a few people who have ipod transmitters that ended up not working well, so I want to make sure I do a little research before I buy something. If anyone has suggestions they would be greatly appreciated!

I think the real issue with these things is that when you live in a city with a crowded radio spectrum, you get tons of interference from station signals.

That's mostly because your transmitter is terribly low powered. FM signals work where it will take the strongest signal, so if your signal is strong enough, your radio will take the FM transmitter one, So the trick is getting one powerful enough.

I bought a few. I had a Belkin and some generic brand. The generic brand was better than the Belkin, but still not good enough.

My new car has a tape player, so I've been lucky enough to be able to use that.

Before I had my iPod wired directly into my stereo I used the iTrip by Griffin. It worked great. Originally had a Belkin one, but it was a piece of shit.

I had a cheap one from DealExtreme (jokersmoker hot deal, IIRC) that worked great until I forgot it was plugged in and pulled on the line-in cord, thereby breaking the solder connection inside. :(

I use a Zune car kit now..works okay, but it's not nearly as powerful as the cheap Chinese one.

You say that, but you make no recommendation. Frankly, after trying 3 different ones, I agree with Kadarin. My last one was the iTrip by Griffin. The first one was so bad I returned it. The second one was better, but not by much. When I returned from my trip, I returned it too, and got one of those tape player things. It was 100000% better.

I wonder if the cheap Chinese ones are better because they are more powerful than the FCC allows for.

Good point! I think the law changed around 2000. Where might one find a cheap one made in China? The cheap one I got from Monoprice was garbage.
