Looking at getting an Ipod Touch soon and want some decent accessories for it. Looked over Ebay and Google and see so many, but don't know what's good.

I'm looking for:

- Protective Skin - probably something silicon so it's not too bulky or heavy.

- Screen protector - I see a million of them, are they all the same?

- Car Charger - need I say more?

- Bluetooth dongle + around the head earphones. I've seen one from Motorola that looked pretty nice. Just want something without wires I can wear while mowing or doing other work.

Also, this is a bit OT but since it's my thread... :p What's a good program to convert movies to fit on the touch? What's the standard conversion? Do you convert say a DVD to a certain resolution? I'd imagine some DVDs could be huge and would fill up the touch quickly.

1) Protective skins are lame. It's not like the iPod is going to retain it's value by not having any scratches on it. It's like putting plastic covers on a couch.

2) The screen is glass, no need for a protector as it doesn't scratch. Trust me I've been carrying around my iPhone in my backpocket for well on 3 months and not a single scratch on the screen.

3) Any old iPod car charger should do

4) Screw wireless headphones, here's what you do. While doing physical activities put the headphone cord in your shirt or jacket, even down your back, thus keeping the cord out of the way.

5) Handbrake, it's free and good and does things automatically.

4) And when you turn you head it feels likes your ear drum is connected to your nipple. So no.

1. I think protective skins are useful. If they are thick enough they can protect against dropping. Even if not, people on Ebay seem to be particularly picky about scratches. Selling a Touch or iPhone that has a few serious scratches on it will result in at least $30-40 less selling price compared to a phone that is pristine... and I've sold my fair share of iPods and iPhones on Ebay and studied the auctions to know. If you are planning or even thinking about selling it in the future, then a case more than pays for itself - particularly if you drop it on a tile floor and the rubber case keeps the glass from cracking.

As far as cases - I really liked Agent18 hard shell case from Apple.com. It's hard plastic, not sticky and gives full access to the screen and buttons.
I also like the "incase protective cover" which is rubberized hard plastic which is sold at Best Buy - but is a bit hard to find there. It's also on Apple.com. The incase cover is a bit sticky rubbery - which is good if you are worried about it slipping in your hand, not so good if you are trying to slide it into your pocket.

2. For screen protectors, Mr. CoPunk is correct, it is a glass screen. That said, the screen fills with fingerprints and you have to clean it. I highly recommend the "power Support anti-glare protector" or, even better, the Power Support Matte Finish protector". The matte finish won't show any fingerprints at all. It applies super easy, is easy to remove and it's easy to apply such that there's no bubbles at all underneath.

3. For car chargers it is very important to get one that is iPod Touch approved or you'll get a warning message every time you plug it in... or maybe that's just an iPhone thing. But I would make sure you get something that specifically mentions the iPod Touch on it.

4. I'm not a fan of bluetooth headphones - I've never liked the feel of them. For mowing, I like the in-ear ones... like the Shure SE110's. Completely blocks the sound of the mower. Nice for planes too.

5. I agree on Handbrake. Use Handbrake to convert DVD's and use Videora to convert Divx, wmv, etc. Both are free. Handbrake rocks - although it's slow.

Keep in mind that the iPhoneOS doesn't support stereo audio over Bluetooth, even if you got a dongle you'd get mono sound. If you're worried about the echo effect, get wrap-around headphones instead of earbuds.
