iPod Touch demands 64-bit iTunes with Vista x64

Not sure if this would be the best forum, but here goes....

So I just got a 2nd gen iPod Touch, and installed the 64-bit version of iTunes 8.0.2. When I connect my iPod, I get the following message:

This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes.

I've tried removing every piece of Apple software, restarting, and reinstalling, many times, all with the same result. Would it matter that it's installing to Program Files (x86)?

Either way, I have no clue what to do. Google has been completely unhelpful thus far.

Run itunes, and look at its process in task manager make sure that it does not have the *32 bit after the process name, signifying its actually 64 bit.

Ends up you just have to change the install directory to Program Files. I guess the 64-bit version is still actually a 32-bit version, except with 64-bit drivers for CD burning and iPods. Xfire was also interfering with the installation, to complicate the issue, but it's working now, so, hooray!
