I am currently looking into the 512 MB iPod shuffle. Anyone have one that can tell me anything about them? (Are they good? Any problems with them? etc.)
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
Probably to keep them under $100Originally posted by: intogamer
They are awesome. But why don't they have a screen like others... also fm radio would be nice. voice record too.
Yeah, but unless you go on road trips every weekend, who really needs more than 512mb worth of music on their person?Originally posted by: ElFenix
get a mini instead! (all part of steve job's evil plan... you go in there wanting a shuffle, and then you think... for just $50 more i can get 4x the storage and a screen!)

For what I use a shuffle for, it's the best I've found. I mainly use it to listen to music while biking to class and working out at the gym. Both of these activities require something small and lightweight with a small, but reasonable, amount of storage. You will not believe how light the shuffle is until you've actually used it. I forget it's in my pocket half the time. A mini would be nice if you do other things, but I don't use a screen, the extra storage wouldn't be used, and extra size and weight would make throwing it in my pocket and forgetting about it much harder to do.
But that's just me, my brother has a regular iPod and for what HE uses it for, a shuffle wouldn't be that great. A lot of people knock the shuffle for not having this feature or that feature, but what they're really showing is that it all depends on what you use it for.

Dumb Question: Can you just drag your own mp3's to it, or do you have to go through iTunes where you browse then buy what you want? I don't want to have to repay for songs I already have on my computer.

Yes, you can use your own MP3s. But it'll have to be transfered to the iPod using iTunes. The iTunes you're thinking about is the iTunes Music Store where you can buy inferior quality 128 AAC tracks for $99 each track and $9.99 for each album.

doesn't anybody care about the lack of control over what songs you want to listen to?

BTW, if you're gonna use iTunes w/ your MP3s, make sure you turn off "Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized" and "Copy Files to iTunes Music Folder when Adding to Library" in the Advanced tab of Preference. Do it before you drag your MP3s collection into iTunes, or else you'll fvck up everything. EVERYTHING.

What do you mean by lack of control? As far as I understand, you can tell it what songs you put on there, and even in what order you want them to play. It also has a forward/back button on it to let you go back & forth between songs. You don't necessarily have to load random songs and have them play in a random order, though that is one of the features of the shuffle.
