Ipod Shuffle worth money for mp3p and usbdrive?

i plan to buy ipod shuffle for my brother's birthday present.
is it suitable to use as mp3p and usb drive? (1gb)

i have the 512, which is more than enough. i put about 75 songs on it and still has plenty of room for the data. 1gb is too much in my opinion because it can take a long time to get to a specific song that you want to hear

My girlfriend was just given one of these by her boss at work (she works for a cool graphics company). Itis definitely neat, although I do like having the screen on my little Samsung Yepp. Regardless, I love how thin the actual device is.

Both of us have 512MB MP3s and that is more than enough for our usage (running, gym, etc.)
