Ipod recognition problem

I just purchased a new 30gig video Ipod about a week ago and up until now its been working great.

Yesterday I went to plug it into my computer to load a document onto it and a message pops up saying an "unknown device" is plugged into the USB port. Im not sure what this means becuase like I said it was working fine just the day before.

I tried uninstalling my USB devices and rebooting by computer but to no avail.

Do you guys have any more suggestions I could try or would my Ipod be officially kaput. Let me know im willing to try just about anything before I resort to sending it back for a new one 🙁

try plugging into a different usb slot...seems stupid, but i just had the exact same problem moments ago and that fixed it

I tried that, and still the same problem.

Also tried pluggin it into my other comp and still says unknown device. Arg these things can be frustrating sometimes.

can you borrow another cable from someone else to rule that out?
have you tried resetting the software back to factory settings (as a last resort. and back up your stuff!).

I wouldnt mind restoring back to factory settings, because i didnt have a whole lot on the Ipod anyway.

But to do that I thought that I had to have it plugged into the computer which in my case doesnt work, is there some other way of doing this?
