ipod purchasing

So I've got a good summer job and after 2 years its time to finally buy an ipod. I have a couple questions about this. First of all, I use WMA format to copy cd's onto my computer and while i have a large collection of mp3's, i have a bunch of wmas (thousands) that i've copied to my computer from friends cds and kids around the dorm which I would like to have on my ipod. Is there a program that can convert such a large amount of wma's to mp3? If not I'll probably be forced to buy another mp3 player that has wma support but everywhere i research people tell me they just don't compare to ipods. Also, any programs that rip to mp3 that are free and will give me good quality? I used to use winamp and i think i heard it has ripping support but i've been out of the techy loop for a while. Thanks.

re rip using aac? i like aac its alot better compared to mp3 but there are programs which will do all the converting and stuff for u

CDex does AAC as well.

drag all the wma's into itunes, it'll automatically import them. the new itunes has full wma support.

You'll have to decide for yourself, but I heard that if you take a lossy format (e.g. WMA) and convert to another lossy format (e.g. AAC), you end up with the worst of both formats quality-wise.

thanks i didin't realize itunes was becoming so versatile now i have no problem buying an ipod.
